Spotify Premium users in the U.S. and Canada can watch music videos for supported tracks. Spotify says the feature is still in beta: it spans phones, tablets, computers, the web player and TVs, but it does not include a video for every song.
When did Spotify music videos arrive in the U.S. and Canada?
Spotify announced the North American rollout on December 9, 2025, and said the feature was available to all Premium users in both countries by December 10. Spotify continues to describe music videos as a beta feature. On June 15, 2026, it added the personalized Videos for You playlist for Premium users in the U.S. and Canada. That means broad access to the feature, not guaranteed access to any particular video. Spotify describes a catalog of thousands of videos, with more being added; the company does not claim that its library covers every Spotify song. Spotify’s Premium benefits page
Who can watch?
In the U.S. and Canada, music-video access is for Spotify Premium listeners, not all Spotify accounts. A video must also be available in Spotify’s catalog for the listener’s market. Spotify says availability can depend on delivery by a label or distributor and, for U.S. eligibility, songwriter and publisher data registered with the Mechanical Licensing Collective. Spotify documents support for mobile, tablet, desktop, web player and TV. TV support does not guarantee identical controls on every television model or app version.
How to watch a video on a phone or tablet
- Open Spotify and play a track that has a video.
- Open the Now Playing screen and tap Switch to video above the song title.
- Turn the device to landscape for a full-screen view.
- Tap Switch to audio to return to audio playback.
Spotify says switching modes resumes at the closest matching timestamp rather than restarting the track. Spotify’s Premium benefits page
How to watch on desktop or the web player
- Play a supported track in the Spotify desktop app or web player.
- In Now Playing, click Switch to video above the song title.
- Click Switch to audio when you want to return to the audio version.
How to watch on a TV
- Start playing Spotify on your phone or another device.
- Use Spotify Connect to transfer playback to a TV that supports Spotify.
- From the controlling device’s Now Playing screen, choose Switch to video.
- Use the TV task bar to toggle viewing settings.

Where to find more videos
- Related Music Videos: Scroll below a supported song.
- Artist profiles: Check the Music tab.
- Curated playlists: Spotify highlights options such as 90s Video Hits, Hip-Hop Throwbacks and Latin Party Hits.
- Videos for You: Search for the playlist or look in Search’s playlist highlights shelf. Spotify says it refreshes daily with personalized music videos, live performances and covers.

What is in Spotify’s video catalog?
The catalog includes official studio music videos, along with some live performances and covers. These are videos delivered into Spotify’s catalog through labels, distributors or Spotify’s artist-upload systems—not simply YouTube videos embedded in Spotify. A video being available on YouTube does not mean it will also be available on Spotify. Rights, territory, delivery and catalog changes can affect whether a specific video appears; Spotify notes that a video removed by a label or distributor disappears from Spotify for Artists as well.

Why “Switch to video” may be missing
The most common explanation is that the account or track is not eligible: the account may not have Premium, or Spotify may not have a video for that song in the listener’s country. A missing button does not by itself mean the feature is unavailable to the account.
Try these practical checks; Spotify does not publish this as a definitive troubleshooting sequence:

- Confirm that Spotify is signed into the intended Premium account.
- Try a track featured in one of Spotify’s video playlists.
- Update Spotify, then sign out and back in.
- Test the same track in another supported client, such as the mobile app, desktop app or web player.
- Check the artist profile’s Music tab for the video.

Spotify or YouTube Music for music videos?
Spotify’s main advantage is convenience for people who already use its music library: eligible users can move between audio and video without leaving the track, and playback continues near the same point. The trade-off is that Spotify’s beta catalog is selective.
If your priority is finding a wide range of official, rare, older, regional or fan-uploaded videos, YouTube’s broader video ecosystem may suit you better. Spotify has not positioned this feature as a complete replacement for YouTube or YouTube Music, and a catalog-size comparison is not established here. Switching services may also mean rebuilding playlists and recommendations.
Is Premium worth paying for just to watch videos?
Usually not if music videos are your only reason to subscribe: the feature covers supported videos, not Spotify’s entire music library. It is more compelling as an added benefit for someone who already wants Premium and likes switching between listening and watching within Spotify.

The same page displayed Student at $6.99 per month, Duo at $18.99 per month and Family at $21.99 per month. These are U.S. prices and may change; the page does not establish Canadian prices. Video streaming uses more data and battery than audio-only playback, as a practical consequence of streaming video; Spotify does not provide a general measurement for the difference. Video versions can also have different edits, intros or dialogue from an audio release, depending on the specific release.
