Spotify Blend creates a shared, automatically refreshed playlist from the listening activity of everyone who joins. It updates daily, helping friends or family discover overlap and new recommendations without manually adding every track. Blend is different from a collaborative playlist, which people edit themselves, and from Jam, which is for listening together in real time.
Spotify’s current instructions are documented for its US service; labels and availability can vary by country, account, device and app rollout.
What Spotify Blend does
Blend is an algorithmically generated group playlist. Spotify uses the participants’ listening activity to produce recommendations and refreshes the playlist daily. It is not simply a merge of everyone’s saved or liked songs, and Spotify does not promise an equal number of tracks for each person.
The playlist is designed for asynchronous discovery: everyone can listen when convenient, while the recommendations evolve as participants keep listening. People in playlists containing Spotify’s social recommendations may see the other participants’ profile pictures and usernames. See Spotify’s explanation at Spotify Support.

How to create a Blend on iPhone or Android
- Open Spotify and go to Your Library.
- Tap the plus or Create button.
- Choose Blend.
- Tap Invite and send the invitation link to friends or family.
The icon or wording can differ slightly between app versions. The reliable target is Blend in Spotify’s playlist-creation controls.
How to create a Blend on desktop or web player
- Open Spotify and select Search.
- Under Browse all, choose Made for You.
- Select Create Blend.
- Click Invite and share the link.
This is separate from creating a normal playlist through Your Library → Create playlist. Spotify’s documented paths are listed on its Blend support page.
Invite people and understand the limit
Send the link to each person who should participate. The recipient should open it while signed in to the intended Spotify account, accept the invitation, and then look in Spotify’s personalized playlist area. Spotify says the creator can invite up to 10 friends, making the maximum 11 participants when the creator is included.

After people join, Spotify says the Blend appears in Made for You. A Premium subscription is not stated as a universal requirement on the official Blend support page, so do not assume every Free user is barred from creating or joining one. Account, market and rollout differences can affect what each person sees.
Add people after the Blend already exists
- Open the Blend.
- Tap the Follow icon.
- Select Invite more.
- Send the new invitation, provided the participant limit has not been reached.
Find an existing Blend
Use Search → Made for You. A joined Blend may also appear with your playlists or other personalized content. If it is missing, confirm that you joined with the correct account, reopen the invitation, search Spotify for the Blend, restart or update the app, and ask the creator to send a fresh link. These are practical recovery steps rather than guarantees of how Spotify handles every account.
View and share the Blend story
The Blend story is a shareable social summary of the group’s taste relationship, not a separate playlist or a technical explanation of Spotify’s recommendation system.

- Open the Blend on mobile.
- Tap the three-dot menu (vertical dots on Android; horizontal dots on iPhone in Spotify’s instructions).
- Choose View Blend story.
- Tap Share this story.
Leave a Blend
- Open the Blend.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Select Leave Blend.
Leaving removes your participation from that Blend. Spotify documents the control but does not specify every effect on the remaining participants, so leaving should not be described as deleting the playlist for everyone.
Artist Blend
Some artists offer an artist-specific Blend invitation. Look for a link on the artist’s social-media account or in the Artist pick playlist on the artist’s Spotify profile. Opening the link launches Spotify; select Go to Blend. Availability depends on whether that artist currently provides an invitation link.

Which option should you choose?
Choose Blend for automated group discovery
- You want recommendations that bridge several people’s tastes.
- No one wants to curate every song manually.
- The group is comfortable with listening activity contributing to social recommendations.
- You want a quick snapshot of how your tastes relate.
Choose a collaborative playlist for control
- You need to approve, remove or arrange every track.
- The playlist has a fixed brief, such as a wedding, party, road trip or workout.
- Contributors should add songs directly.
Choose Jam for simultaneous listening
- Everyone wants to listen at the same time.
- The group needs a shared queue and playback control.
- A Premium user can host the session.
Use Spotify Mixes for individual discovery
Spotify Mixes are personalized playlists based primarily on one listener’s habits, including artists, genres and decades. They are not group playlists. Spotify describes them at Find playlists.

The Blend button does not appear
Search Made for You, check both Your Library and Search, update Spotify, sign out and back in, and try the mobile app if desktop does not show the control. Reopen an invitation link, then contact Spotify Support if the feature remains unavailable. The cause may be an interface change, account or market availability, device rollout, or an account-session problem.
The invitation link opens incorrectly
- Make sure the recipient is signed in to the intended Spotify account.
- Open the link in the Spotify app rather than only in a browser.
- Check that the creator has not reached the 10-invite limit.
- Confirm the recipient has not already joined with another account.
- Ask the creator to send the link again.
Do not assume Blend links expire. Spotify’s separate seven-day rule for some private-playlist links should not be transferred to Blend.

The playlist feels repetitive or uneven
Spotify describes Blend as being driven by listening activity and recommendation logic, not by an equal quota. As an inference, someone with little recent Spotify activity, a narrow listening profile or fewer plays may be less visible in the results. Spotify does not publish a participant-weighting formula.
A participant is concerned about privacy
Because social-recommendation playlists can show participants’ profile pictures and usernames, anyone uncomfortable with that exposure should avoid joining or review Spotify’s privacy and social settings.
Family members use separate accounts
Separate accounts are compatible with the social use case. A Spotify Family plan is not shown as a prerequisite for Blend. Family eligibility is a separate subscription matter: Spotify’s terms require household members to live at the same address. See Family plan and Spotify’s paid-subscription terms.
Do you need Spotify Premium?
Spotify’s official Blend support page does not establish a universal Premium requirement for creating or joining Blend, and buying Premium does not promise better Blend recommendations. Premium matters when the goal is ad-free playback, offline listening or hosting a Jam. Spotify’s US Premium page currently shows plan options and live eligibility at spotify.com/us/premium; offers and prices can change, so use that page at checkout. Spotify announced a further US pricing update in January 2026 at its newsroom.

Use Blend when you want an automatically refreshed group-discovery playlist. Use a collaborative playlist when people must choose and edit every track. Use Jam when the point is synchronized listening and shared playback control.
