Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day was promoted with a special spot during Super Bowl LX. The film’s official U.S. theatrical release date was June 12, 2026, which has passed; Peacock has an official listing, but playback availability may vary by date and territory.
What was the Disclosure Day Super Bowl spot?
The Super Bowl LX broadcast on NBC and Peacock included a special spot for Spielberg’s film, according to NBCUniversal. Amblin’s official film page lists the promotion as the “Super Bowl Spot.” Its copy urges, “People deserve to know,” and gives the original theatrical date: June 12, 2026. Other official promotional lines include “We deserve to know the truth” and “This summer everything will become clear.” These are studio taglines, not plot revelations.
The spot introduces the film through a question from Universal: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” The framing signals an extraterrestrial mystery centered on disclosure, while leaving much of the story unexplained.
What is Disclosure Day about?
Universal’s premise asks how people would respond to proof that humanity is not alone. In Associated Press reporting, Josh O’Connor plays a cybersecurity whistleblower with government evidence of a long-suppressed history of alien encounters. Emily Blunt plays meteorologist Margaret Fairchild, who experiences a mysterious epiphany. The AP also identifies Colman Domingo as a leader in the disclosure movement and Colin Firth as a corporate executive. These details describe the setup, not the full plot.

Who made the film, and who is in the cast?
Disclosure Day is directed by Steven Spielberg, who also originated the story. David Koepp wrote the screenplay, and Janusz Kamiński is the cinematographer, according to Amblin Entertainment. The announced principal cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo, as listed by NBCUniversal.
Is Disclosure Day Spielberg’s first sci-fi film in eight years?
That description is broadly understandable, but it needs a distinction. If “sci-fi” means science fiction generally, the comparison is Ready Player One, Spielberg’s 2018 film. Disclosure Day is therefore his first broadly science-fiction feature since then—not his first movie in eight years. He directed The Fabelmans, released in 2022.

If the label means extraterrestrial science fiction specifically, NBCUniversal describes Disclosure Day as Spielberg’s first foray into that subgenre in more than two decades. The two descriptions use different definitions of science fiction; they are not competing release histories. Amblin’s Spielberg filmography includes the earlier films.
What has Spielberg said about the film and alien life?
In an interview published June 3, 2026, the Associated Press quoted Spielberg saying, “It’s my first film that will be considered science fiction that I do not consider to be science fiction.” He added that it was “much more reflective of the world as it is evolving and discoveries that are being made as we speak.” Those remarks describe his creative perspective, not confirmation of extraterrestrial life.

Spielberg also told the AP, “I’ve been a believer since I made ‘Close Encounters’ 50 years ago,” and said, “I’m now willing to change my mind because of the circumstantial evidence which is overwhelming.” These are his personal views; they are not independent evidence that aliens have been discovered.
