A Spider-Gwen animated spin-off was reported to be in development in February 2026, but Sony has not publicly established a release date, title, director, voice cast, or story for it in the sources available. It is also unclear whether this newer project is connected to the broader Spider-Women concept reported earlier.
Is the Spider-Woman movie still happening?
The latest update is a February 2026 report that Sony Pictures Animation is developing a Spider-Gwen spin-off, alongside a Spider-Punk spin-off. The update was reported as coming from an interview with studio co-presidents Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville; it is not the same as a formal Sony announcement with a project page or production details. ComingSoon’s summary of the update describes the projects as in development.
Sony’s official executive page lists Belson as a Sony Pictures Animation president, but it does not confirm specific details of the spin-off. Sony Pictures Animation’s Belson page provides studio context, not a release announcement.
Is Spider-Gwen getting a movie?
Current reporting describes an animated Spider-Gwen spin-off. The evidence does not establish its official title or whether “Spider-Gwen” is a working description, nor does it settle whether the project is a continuation or a reworking of Sony’s earlier Spider-Women concept.

The earlier concept was broader: Deadline reported in November 2018 that Sony was developing a Spider-Woman film involving three generations of female Spider-related characters. In May 2023, producer Amy Pascal was reported to have identified Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman as characters associated with the animated concept. Those reports describe the earlier concept, not a confirmed cast or final plot for the newer project. Deadline’s 2018 report and Variety’s May 2023 report document that history.
| Project description | Character scope reported | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Earlier Spider-Women concept | Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman were named in 2023 reporting; the 2018 description referred to three generations of female Spider-related characters. | Historical development reporting; this is not a confirmed final cast or story. |
| Newer Spider-Gwen project | Described in February 2026 reporting as a Spider-Gwen spin-off. | Reported to be in development; its relationship to the earlier concept is not established. |
Who will be in the Spider-Woman movie?
No voice cast is established in the available reporting. The earlier concept was associated with Gwen Stacy, Cindy Moon, and Jessica Drew, but there is no confirmation that Cindy or Jessica will appear in the newer Spider-Gwen project. The reports also do not establish a live-action connection; the recent update describes an animated Spider-Verse project.

When does the Spider-Woman movie come out?
No release date for the Spider-Gwen or Spider-Women project has been established in the available sources. Sony’s official page lists Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse for theatrical release on June 18, 2027; that date belongs to that film, not a Spider-Woman spin-off. Sony Pictures Animation’s official project page gives the Beyond the Spider-Verse date and does not provide a date for the spin-off.
