The original Avenger in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Bruce Banner, the Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo. Set video and photos reported in October 2025 pointed to Ruffalo’s presence on the production, and Sony’s official film page now lists Ruffalo in the cast and describes Banner’s role in the story. The casting is no longer only a leak-based report.
Which Avenger appears in the film
Sony’s official page for Spider-Man: Brand New Day lists Bruce Banner/Hulk as a main character, with Mark Ruffalo in the cast. Sony describes Banner as a former Avenger who now works as a quantum mechanics professor at Empire State University. In the story, he becomes a resource for Peter Parker before losing control and unleashing Savage Hulk. Sony’s official gallery also lists Ruffalo in the cast, so the credit appears on two official Sony surfaces rather than in a single promotional line.
The film is the fourth to feature Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and Sony says it takes place four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home. That timeline matters for the Banner storyline: the character’s return is presented as a development after the events of the earlier film, not as a cameo in a separate universe.
What the October 2025 set reports showed
The first public evidence came from production material rather than an announcement. ComingSoon reported on October 20, 2025 that set video and photos showed Ruffalo on the film set. That report is secondary coverage of leaked material, and it should be read as reporting about what was seen on set, not as a studio statement. Its value for readers is the date: the Banner presence was being reported while the film was still in production, months before Sony’s official material described the role.

What Ruffalo actually said
The headline’s word “denial” overstates what the reporting shows. CinemaBlend, in a report published July 30, 2026, quoted a viral interview clip from MTV UK in which Ruffalo, discussing Tom Holland’s projects, said: “I don’t know anything about… I can’t wait to see them. I hope I can go to the premieres.” CinemaBlend attributes the words and their interpretation to its own reporting; the sentence itself is Ruffalo’s as quoted there, and it does not explicitly deny his involvement.
CinemaBlend also recounts an earlier statement in which Ruffalo said he did not have a script. It sets that remark against the set activity reported in 2025. Readers should weigh these as guarded and playful remarks reported secondhand, not as a clear denial that could be checked against an official statement.
What Sony’s official material confirms
Sony’s film page is the authoritative source for the cast list, character descriptions, and synopsis. Its listing of Ruffalo and its Banner/Hulk summary are the basis for the answer to the question “Is Mark Ruffalo in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?” Yes. Readers who want the character details in Sony’s own words should go to the film’s official page rather than to summaries.
Where to watch or own the film
Sony’s current page says the film is available through digital retailers and on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. Those are the formats Sony names; the page does not establish relative picture quality, price, or retailer stock, so check your preferred retailer before buying. Earlier ticket offers and release-window details that circulated before the theatrical run are historical and should not be treated as current.
