Sony Pictures’ current official FAQ confirms that Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Before that confirmation, viewers read a hooded figure and a brief burst of energy in the trailers as possible clues to Sink’s role. Those moments fueled speculation; they did not establish the character’s identity.
Who does Sadie Sink play in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Sony identifies Sink’s character as Jean Grey, describing her as a young girl with psychic abilities that let her transfer her consciousness into other people and control their bodies. This is now an official studio identification, not merely a fan theory. Sony Pictures’ film page and FAQ also identify the movie as the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film.
What did viewers interpret as a trailer clue?
The obscured figure
A June 17, 2026, ComicBook.com analysis focused on a hooded figure whose face was hidden. The writer pointed to the trailer’s editing alongside images of Bruce Banner and Hulk, as well as an earlier front-facing shot, as reasons to suspect the figure was Sink. The piece connected that possibility to the Jean Grey theory and a character said to be capable of taking over bodies. These were interpretations of marketing footage, not a studio-confirmed account of the figure or its powers at the time.
The brief blast
A June 18, 2026, GamesRadar+ report described a brief blast in the second trailer that a fan compared to Jean Grey’s psychic powers in X-Men: Evolution. The resemblance offered a possible visual clue, not proof of the character’s identity. The report also noted that the film synopsis referred to an unseen threat.

The evidence changed over time. Before Sony confirmed the role, the obscured figure, editing choices and psychic-looking blast gave viewers material for a theory, but none independently verified it. On June 30, 2026, ComicBook.com reported that Sink said viewers would have to wait until the film opened to learn her character’s identity. Sony’s current FAQ has since resolved that question by naming Jean Grey.

What Sony says about the story
Sony’s official synopsis describes Peter Parker fighting crime full-time in a world that no longer remembers him. The pressure and isolation are changing him, and that change may be connected to stopping an unseen threat. Sony says the story takes place four years after No Way Home. These are the studio’s stated premise and character details; the trailer clues alone did not establish the full plot.
