Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled to open in theaters on June 18, 2027, according to Sony Pictures Animation. In an update reported in July 2026, producer Christopher Miller said the team was deep into the work and editing the film. That is a sign of active progress—not confirmation that the film is finished or that its release date is guaranteed.
What is the latest update on Beyond the Spider-Verse?
In a July 7, 2026 report, GamesRadar+ relayed comments Miller made on the Empire Podcast. He said, “We are deep, deep in it,” and described the team “chugging away in the edit room” with the film “coming together really well.” He also called it “a lot of movie, and a lot to do.”
The same report said the filmmakers planned to view footage at IMAX headquarters at scale and check its resolution. That detail points to work still underway; it does not establish a final cut, a completed film, or a locked release schedule.
When is the film scheduled to come out?
Sony Pictures Animation currently lists Beyond the Spider-Verse for theaters on June 18, 2027. The studio’s official film page is the clearest source for the current date.

A July 2026 Zoom TV report includes a conflicting June 4, 2027 date in one sentence. Because that conflicts with Sony’s current listing, June 18 is the date to use; the discrepancy is not evidence of a newly announced schedule change.
What does the creative reset mean?
Zoom TV’s July 2026 report attributes the longer process to Miller’s explanation that the filmmakers took the film apart to put it back together again. That offers a reported explanation for the reset, but it should be understood as Miller’s account relayed by the outlet—not an independently verified production chronology.

Earlier comments provide context for the team’s ambitions rather than a specific milestone. In a March 3, 2026 report, SYFY Wire quoted Miller saying, “We put the most pressure on ourselves,” and Phil Lord saying, “The main trick is to play free.” Those remarks speak to creative intent; they do not confirm when production will finish.

Sony’s synopsis says Miles Morales is hunted by Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society and betrayed by friends. Miles travels through the Spider-Verse to reunite with and protect his family. Sony also lists Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson as directors, with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh as producers.

For a catch-up before the sequel, Sony’s page for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lists Blu-ray, 4K UHD, and DVD editions and describes the film as setting the stage for the next chapter. Those are formats for the preceding film, not for the unreleased sequel.
