Jharrel Jerome, who voices Earth-42’s Miles G. Morales, said in a January 2025 interview that he had not yet started recording dialogue for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. That was an update about Jerome’s own voice work at the time—not a statement about the film’s entire production or its current status. Sony Pictures Animation now lists the film for theaters on June 18, 2027.
What Jharrel Jerome said about recording
Asked whether production was underway, Jerome replied: “No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things.” GamesRadar reported that the remark came from a January 2025 interview with Decider.
Jerome voices the alternate-universe Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, not the principal Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore. Jerome’s comment establishes only that his own voice recording had not begun when he gave the interview. It does not establish that animation or other production work had not started, and it should not be treated as a current status report.
When does Beyond the Spider-Verse come out?
Sony Pictures Animation’s official film page currently lists a theatrical release date of June 18, 2027. TheWrap reported that producer Phil Lord announced June 4, 2027, at CinemaCon in March 2025, but Sony’s current listing gives the later date. Release dates can change, so the studio page is the best place to check for the latest listing.

The screenplay is credited to Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham.

What Shameik Moore meant by “3 movies. Not 3 characters.”
In June 2025, Moore clarified a separate interview remark with the words “3 movies. Not 3 characters.” ComingSoon reported that he meant he had voiced Miles in three movies—not that three Miles variants were confirmed to appear in Beyond the Spider-Verse. The clarification is not a plot reveal.
