The official trailer sets up a tense weekend visit that turns uneasy for an American family: Ben and Louise Dalton accept an invitation from a British couple they befriended, then begin to fear their hosts have sinister motives. The 2024 horror film stars James McAvoy and is based on the screenplay of the 2022 Danish film Gæsterne.
What is the Speak No Evil trailer about?
Universal’s trailer description introduces Americans Ben and Louise Dalton and their daughter Agnes, who are invited to stay at an idyllic country estate with Paddy, his wife Ciara and their mute son Ant. The official synopsis says Ben and Louise accept the unusual weekend invitation after befriending the British couple. When the hosts’ motives come into question, the parents fear their family may be caught up in a disturbing plot.
That is the premise the official materials establish. They do not provide a verified shot-by-shot account of the trailer, so specific scenes or additional plot revelations should not be inferred from its listing.
Is James McAvoy’s Speak No Evil a remake?
It is an English-language adaptation based on the screenplay of Gæsterne, the 2022 Danish horror film written by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup. The original film was directed by Christian Tafdrup; James Watkins wrote and directed the 2024 film. Universal describes the connection as being based on the original screenplay, rather than presenting the two films as unrelated stories.
