SoundCloud is making its community more visible during music discovery. Its Liked By feature shows when people a listener follows—including friends, artists, creators, and other listeners—have liked a track.

Its Liked By feature shows when people a listener follows—including friends, artists, creators, and other listeners—have liked a track. Their profile images can appear beside songs across SoundCloud, turning an existing like into a social recommendation cue.
The change does not mean that every track someone hears is displayed, that a friend’s like guarantees quality, or that SoundCloud has made likes private. Instead, it gives more prominence to activity that was already part of the platform’s social network.
What SoundCloud’s Liked By feature does
When a followed account has liked a track, SoundCloud may place that person’s profile image beside the song and identify the activity as “Liked By.” The indicator can appear in several parts of the service, including:

SoundCloud’s official Liked By documentation describes the feature as a way to see which people a listener follows have liked a track. The identity of the liker supplies context that an ordinary algorithmic recommendation often lacks: this song may be worth hearing because someone in the listener’s own network responded to it.
Liked By playlists bring that activity together
SoundCloud is also using followed accounts’ likes to create dedicated playlists and track lists on Home. These compilations can include music liked by friends, artists, and other accounts a listener follows. SoundCloud says users are automatically opted into these playlists, while an option to opt out is available in Settings.
Following more people gives the feature a larger pool of activity to draw from. That makes the quality of a listener’s following list particularly important: a Home page populated by trusted friends, favorite artists, and creators will produce a different social-discovery experience from one built around accounts the listener rarely uses.
How the new discovery loop works
- Follow people whose taste you trust. These may be friends, artists, DJs, producers, or other listeners.
- Browse familiar SoundCloud surfaces. Look through Home, playlists, search results, artist pages, liked tracks, and uploads.
- Watch for the Liked By indicator. A followed person’s avatar may appear beside a track they liked.
- Listen and respond. You can open the track, like it, save it to a playlist, repost it, or follow the artist.
- Add your own signal. Your activity may help people who follow you find music as well.
This is a small change to the interface, but it changes the question a listener can ask while browsing. Instead of only asking, “Why did the algorithm show me this?” the listener can also ask, “What did my friend, favorite artist, or fellow creator hear in this?”

It adds a social layer to SoundCloud’s existing feed
Liked By is not a replacement for SoundCloud’s personalized recommendations. SoundCloud’s existing Home experience uses signals such as listening history, likes, and the accounts a user follows. The Following experience also surfaces new releases and reposts from followed accounts.

The difference is that Liked By makes the person behind one of those signals more visible. Rather than presenting a track only as an anonymous recommendation, SoundCloud can show the followed account whose like helped make it relevant.
That approach fits SoundCloud’s particular mix of listeners and creators. The service has long combined follows, reposts, likes, playlists, artist activity, and personalized discovery. The new feature exposes more of that community graph at the exact moment someone is deciding what to play.

The rollout was reported as available across the web, iOS, and Android. Exact placement and visibility can vary by account, platform, rollout status, and the people a user follows.
Are SoundCloud likes private?
No. The new feature should not be confused with a new privacy setting. SoundCloud’s privacy documentation says that likes, reposts, comments, follows, and follower and following relationships are publicly available on profiles. SoundCloud does not offer a fully private account mode.

In practical terms, users should treat a like as a public social action. Someone may see it while viewing a profile, or it may appear as a Liked By signal when that person browses SoundCloud. The underlying public nature of likes predates this feature; what has changed is how prominently SoundCloud uses those likes for discovery.
Private tracks and private playlists cannot be liked. SoundCloud also applies limits to actions such as liking, unliking, following, reposting, and messaging to discourage abusive or automated activity.

No evidence indicates that Liked By requires a paid subscription. SoundCloud documents it as part of ordinary Home, search, playlist, library, and upload experiences. Users should not need Go or Go+ merely to see which followed accounts have liked tracks.
SoundCloud Go+ is a separate listening subscription. SoundCloud describes Go+ as offering access to more than 135 million tracks, offline listening, and ad-free streaming, although catalog availability can vary by territory and rights-holder decisions. On iOS and Android, SoundCloud says Go subscribers can listen to their entire Library offline.
That makes Go+ a potentially useful follow-on for listeners who discover a large amount of music through Liked By and want uninterrupted or offline listening. It is not a prerequisite for the social-discovery feature.

What does this mean for artists?
Liked By may make an ordinary listener like more useful to an artist. A track liked by one person can become more visible to that person’s followers, allowing it to travel through a trusted micro-community before it reaches broader recommendation surfaces.

SoundCloud has not established that a Liked By appearance directly improves a track’s ranking, increases its payout, or guarantees additional recommendation placement. A social impression is not the same thing as a play, and a like is not proof that a listener finished or repeatedly played a track.
Creators can nevertheless use SoundCloud’s existing analytics to understand how audiences respond. SoundCloud’s Insights materials list measurements such as plays, likes, reposts, comments, downloads, top tracks, top fans, first fans, and listener locations. Deeper audience and traffic-source information is associated with Artist Pro.
SoundCloud’s Artist and Artist Pro plans also include creator-focused tools such as audience statistics, distribution, monetization, unlimited uploads, and mastering credits. Artist Pro has been listed at $99 per year—equivalent to $8.25 per month when billed annually—but prices and entitlements can change, so creators should verify the current offer before subscribing. These tools are adjacent to Liked By; they are not required to participate in it.

Music streaming services have increasingly treated discovery as a social problem as well as an algorithmic one. People often want to know not only whether a recommendation matches their listening history, but who else is paying attention to it.

SoundCloud has an advantage it can build on: its network already includes artists, producers, fans, niche communities, and early listeners. Making likes more visible uses that existing network instead of requiring a new messaging or sharing system.
Launch coverage placed the update alongside social additions from larger streaming services, including Spotify’s efforts to make sharing and conversation more prominent. But the more important point is SoundCloud’s own direction. Liked By turns the platform’s established mix of follows, likes, reposts, and creator activity into a more visible discovery system.

SoundCloud’s Liked By feature makes the platform’s existing social activity easier to use. Profile images beside tracks and Home collections based on followed accounts’ likes give listeners a human explanation for why a song may deserve attention.
For listeners, the best results will come from following people whose taste they genuinely trust. For artists, likes may now have greater discovery value because they can travel visibly through a listener’s network. But the feature remains a recommendation signal—not a quality guarantee, a private-like system, or evidence of a direct boost to rankings or payouts.

Do you need SoundCloud Go+ to see friends’ likes?
No. Liked By is documented as part of SoundCloud’s ordinary discovery experience. Go+ is a separate subscription for features such as offline listening and ad-free streaming.
Can you hide a SoundCloud like from Liked By?
