SOPHIE’s self-titled second album was released on 27 September 2024, so it is no longer “on the way.” Announced by Transgressive Records in June 2024, the album was described by the label as close to completion when the artist died and finalized by people close to her, including studio manager Benny Long.
When SOPHIE’s album was released
Transgressive Records announced SOPHIE, the artist’s self-titled second album, on 24 June 2024. It was released on 27 September 2024 through Transgressive and Future Classic. The official campaign page now marks the album as out: SOPHIE album campaign page.
The announcement was accompanied by “Reason Why,” featuring Kim Petras and BC Kingdom. The label described the release as the final SOPHIE album release; that wording refers to this album announcement, not a promise that every unreleased recording would be issued.
How the album was completed
Transgressive said the album was created by SOPHIE and some of her close collaborators, and that the project was close to completion when she died. According to the label, people close to her finalized it, with Benny Long—her studio manager and a trusted sounding board—completing the album in a way intended to honor her vision. The Guardian also reported on the album’s near-completion and Long’s role: The Guardian’s 25 June 2024 report.

The release announcement also carried a statement from SOPHIE’s family. They said they had contacted friends with whom Sophie had envisioned the album and believed it was right to share the music she hoped to release. The family wrote: “It feels only right to share with the world the music she hoped to release, in the belief that we can all connect with her in, the form she loved most.” Their perspective is a statement of intention from the family, rather than an independently verifiable account of every decision surrounding the album.
In the same statement, the family said: “Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found.” The announcement characterized the album’s journey as “from mysterious unknown, through wild clublands, to euphoric immateriality”—release copy from the label and family, not a critical description.

What the announcement establishes—and what it doesn’t
The album’s release date, collaborators on its first single, and the label’s account of its completion are documented in the announcement and contemporary coverage. Rolling Stone Australia reported on the family statement and on comments by SOPHIE’s brother Ben Long about releasing music only when it was finished or aligned with what she wanted: Rolling Stone Australia’s 25 June 2024 report. Those comments provide context for the family’s decision, but do not establish that every unfinished track will be released.
Retailer search results identify LP and CD versions, but the available source does not confirm detailed edition specifications or current stock.
