The Bennington Police Department said it was investigating the death as a “possible unintentional overdose” while awaiting final autopsy and toxicology reports. That wording describes an investigative theory, not a confirmed finding. The cited reports did not establish that those forensic results had been released.
What did her family say?
Nyweide’s family described a history of trauma and self-medication in the obituary and related accounts. Those statements are the family’s account and should not be treated as an independently verified diagnosis or as a final explanation for her death.

Has the cause of death been released?
Not in the April 2025 reports cited here. At that point, police were waiting for autopsy and toxicology findings, and the family had not published a definitive cause. Until official forensic results or a later authoritative statement are released, “possible unintentional overdose” remains an investigation status rather than a confirmed cause.

How to understand the reports responsibly
- Family account: The obituary supplied personal remembrance and the family’s description of trauma and self-medication.
- Police account: Bennington police described a possible unintentional-overdose investigation.
- Medical findings: Final autopsy and toxicology results were pending in the cited coverage.
Keeping those categories separate avoids turning an early investigative statement or a family’s account into an established medical conclusion.
