Yes—the three Sonic the Hedgehog movies passed $1 billion in worldwide theatrical box office by early January 2025, while Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was still in theaters. Paramount later reported a cumulative $1.2 billion for the trilogy on February 17, 2025. Those are dated, studio-reported box-office figures, not a measure of the franchise’s total revenue from games, streaming, or merchandise.
How much have the Sonic movies made?
Paramount announced on January 6, 2025, that the film series had crossed $1 billion in worldwide box-office receipts. Its release put the first two movies’ combined worldwide theatrical gross at $725.2 million. On February 17, Paramount reported that the three films had reached $1.2 billion globally, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 having grossed more than $478 million.

The $1.2 billion is the later figure in these announcements; the $1 billion headline describes the earlier milestone, not a current running total. These are studio-reported figures rather than independently audited totals. Box-office amounts can change as a film continues its theatrical run and as studios update their reporting.
What did each reported figure include?
The billion-dollar and $1.2 billion totals refer to worldwide theatrical box office for the three feature films. They do not combine box-office receipts with other kinds of franchise revenue.

- $725.2 million: Paramount’s January 2025 combined worldwide box office for the first two films.
- $181 million: Paramount’s January 2025 figure for consumer spending on rentals and purchases of the first two films. This is separate from theatrical box office.
- More than $425 million: SEGA’s January 22, 2025, reported worldwide gross for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at that point. SEGA said the film had passed its predecessor’s record.
- More than $478 million: Paramount’s February 17, 2025, reported gross for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
The $425 million and $478 million figures reflect announcements made on different dates as the third film’s theatrical run continued; they are not conflicting reports. Paramount also said Knuckles recorded more than 11 million global streaming hours in its first 28 days, describing it at the time as the platform’s top Kids & Family series by hours. Streaming hours are a different measure and are not part of the theatrical total.
Which Sonic film had the biggest box office?
In Paramount’s February 17, 2025, update, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was the largest individual film in the series, with more than $478 million worldwide. The earlier January figure from SEGA was more than $425 million. Comparisons should use the same measure and reporting date: a film’s worldwide theatrical gross, not rental and purchase spending or streaming activity.
