Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is an eight-episode Netflix horror series about a wedding that is five days away—and a bride who cannot shake the feeling that something is wrong. Its secluded, snowy setting and focus on commitment make it a fit for viewers who prefer creeping unease and relationship tension to a steady run of jump scares.
What is Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen about?
Rachel (Camila Morrone) and her fiancé, Nicky (Adam DiMarco), travel to his family’s secluded vacation home in a snowy forest for an intimate wedding. With five days until the ceremony, Rachel’s superstitions and growing paranoia meet a run of eerie coincidences and dreadful surprises. The premise turns a familiar commitment question into the source of the horror: what if you are about to marry the wrong person?
Netflix describes the series as horror, mystery, and drama. It keeps the story close to the couple and the family gathering rather than starting with a broad, action-driven threat. The setting makes the wedding week feel enclosed, while the relationship question gives the unease personal stakes. The series’ official premise leaves open whether the danger should be read as supernatural, psychological, or something else.
Is it scary, and what kind of horror is it?
Expect an unsettling build more than a jump-scare-first approach. Creator and showrunner Haley Z. Boston described the tone to Netflix Tudum as “The overall tone lives in this unsettling, ‘getting under your skin,’ dread territory rather than jump scares.” She also said, “I think horror allows you to explore taboo feelings and take all of these fears and give them some bite.”

That framing points to character-led horror: paranoia, family dynamics, awkward humor, and the pressure of a looming wedding matter alongside the mysteries. Netflix’s materials name Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby as horror reference points; Boston has also cited The Celebration for character drama. These are influences and tonal signposts, not claims that the series is a remake or a direct equivalent.
If you want fast, frequent scares, this may be a more patient watch than you are looking for. If you enjoy dread that grows out of intimate relationships and an increasingly ominous setting, its approach is more likely to suit you. Whether its mystery ultimately feels supernatural or grounded is best left for the episodes to resolve.

The strongest reason to try Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is its specific mix: wedding-week pressure, a remote family setting, and horror built around fear of making an irreversible choice. It is designed for viewers who are willing to sit with unease and character tension rather than judge a horror series by how often it delivers shocks. The premise promises a bingeable mystery, but the available official material does not establish a critical or audience consensus behind the “near-perfect” label.
