Spoilers for Disney’s 2025 live-action musical Snow White. Snow White wakes from the Queen’s cursed-apple sleep after Jonathan kisses her, then returns to the kingdom and leads its people against the Queen. She takes the throne; the Queen is pulled into the Mirror’s shadowy dimension, but the film does not confirm whether she dies.
What happens at the end of Snow White (2025)?
After biting the Queen’s cursed apple, Snow White falls into a deathlike sleep. Jonathan’s kiss wakes her. She then learns that her father has been dead for years—a loss that ends her expectation that he will return to restore the kingdom.
Rather than leave with Jonathan, Snow White goes back to the kingdom and confronts the Queen. At the palace, the Queen’s forces abandon their weapons and side with Snow White. Snow White assumes the throne and becomes the kingdom’s ruler.
What happens to the Queen?
When the guards turn away from her, the Queen retreats to the castle. The Magic Mirror tells her she cannot possess the kindness that makes Snow White the “fairest in the land.” The Queen smashes the Mirror, and dark magic pulls her into its shadowy dimension. The ending does not establish whether she dies or simply vanishes, so her fate remains unresolved. A sequel is not confirmed by this ending.

What does the ending mean?
The story sets the Queen’s idea of fairness against Snow White’s. The Queen treats it as a contest of beauty and possession; Snow White’s worth is linked to kindness and the loyalty she inspires. When the Mirror names kindness as what makes Snow White fairest, it undermines the Queen’s attempt to control the contest. Smashing it turns that obsession against her.
As an interpretation, Snow White’s victory is political as well as personal. She does not merely survive the Queen or receive rescue: she returns to her people, earns their allegiance, and takes responsibility for the kingdom. That choice answers her father’s lesson about fair leadership. Disney’s official film description frames her journey as finding the strength to face the Queen; the scene-by-scene ending account was reported by ComingSoon.

How the 2025 ending differs from other Snow White versions

The Grimm comparison here is specifically the 1857 version, not every edition or retelling of the tale. The 2025 film keeps the poisoned-apple and awakening motif, but makes the kiss a transition to Snow White’s own political action. The animated film’s final movement is a romantic departure; the 2025 film ends with political restoration. The Grimm account uses neither the Disney kiss as its revival mechanism nor the same Queen’s fate.
Why does the 2025 film give Jonathan a larger role?
Jonathan’s presence expands the love-interest storyline, but director Marc Webb did not describe the final throne scene in the statement below. In a Walt Disney Company article, Webb connected the character to an early drawing of the prince in the dungeon: “One of my favorite discoveries was an early sketch of the prince in the dungeon. There’s not much of a storyline in the original film about him. It’s all very lovely and graceful and so beautifully rendered. So, we went back and we used what Walt Disney had started to build and expanded on that in our movie. The storyline with Jonathan, who’s the love interest in our movie, really began with that one image of the prince stuck in the dungeon.”

Which Snow White is this?
