Contemporary reports described Fineman wearing a green-and-yellow outfit similar to Gunn’s and recreating some of her moves. It was a social-media post during SNL’s summer break—not a broadcast sketch.
Who is Raygun?
Raygun is the stage name of Rachael Gunn, an Australian breaker who competed in breaking at the Paris 2024 Olympics. ABC News reported that Gunn received no points in her Olympic heats; footage of her performance became a viral subject. ABC News covered the performance and its online reaction.
What did Chloe Fineman post?
Fineman shared her impression on TikTok in August 2024, while SNL was on its summer break. The Express Tribune described her wearing a green-and-yellow tracksuit resembling Gunn’s and recreating some of the moves from Gunn’s routine. That description comes from contemporary reporting, rather than a directly verified copy of the original TikTok. Read The Express Tribune’s account.
Fineman was not the only SNL cast member to post an impression that weekend. Chloe Troast also shared one. LateNighter reported at the time that Fineman’s routine had more than 700,000 views and Troast’s had 1.8 million. Those are publication-time figures from 2024, not current view counts, and popularity does not measure athletic skill. LateNighter’s report describes the two posts and their then-reported views.

Was the Raygun impression on SNL?
No. Available contemporary reporting identifies Fineman’s impression as a TikTok post made during SNL’s summer break. It does not identify it as a sketch broadcast on the show.
The meme’s humor and its fallout
Gunn’s performance became a source of jokes and imitation, but the reaction also included vitriolic criticism. In a 2025 retrospective, ABC described the wider abuse and reported that Gunn found the criticism difficult. The distinction matters: a comic impression is not the same thing as the harassment that circulated around the viral moment. ABC’s retrospective on the meme and its aftermath discusses breaking, Olympic judging, public mockery and online abuse.

Gunn has also spoken about the culture behind breaking. In a television interview quoted in the ABC retrospective, she said: “Breaking for me it’s a culture, it’s a community, it’s a lifestyle, and you know you can’t retire from culture.” That perspective offers context for why a routine can mean more to a dancer and community than a viral clip alone conveys.

Fineman’s TikTok was separate from a later dispute involving a parody musical. In December 2024, Gunn said she had trademarked her name and her “famous kangaroo silhouette pose” for commercial protection, but not the kangaroo dance. ABC reported that the musical dispute was resolved after its creators renamed the production and agreed not to use Gunn’s name, silhouette or the dance sequence. That later matter was not connected to Fineman’s post. ABC News reported Gunn’s statement and the resolution.
