Kristen Wiig returned to Saturday Night Live on April 6, 2024, for her fifth time hosting, and the show marked the occasion with a cameo-filled Five-Timers Club monologue. Raye was the musical guest, while sketches ranged from a “Jumanji”-tinged board-game night to a Pilates horror parody. Here’s what happened in Season 49, Episode 16.
Wiig’s fifth hosting appearance brings out the Five-Timers
The monologue made Wiig’s fifth turn as host its organizing joke: she joined the Five-Timers Club and received the club’s familiar jacket. Paul Rudd, Martin Short, Matt Damon, Fred Armisen, Jon Hamm, Will Forte, Ryan Gosling, Paula Pell and producer Lorne Michaels appeared in or around the segment, according to the L.A. Times recap.
The guests played with the question of who had earned a place in the club. Rudd joked, “I showed up to be in ‘one of those Five-Timers sketches’.” Damon’s character claimed his jacket was justified by a previous hosting performance, while Gosling lint-rolled Wiig’s jacket. The cameos made the monologue a reunion as much as a milestone for its host.
What were the standout sketches?
“Jumanji” turns Ticket to Ride into an adventure
In the live “Jumanji” sketch, Nina (Wiig) is playing Ticket to Ride when she fears the game will pull her into a real-life Jumanji-style adventure. Will Forte appears as a train conductor in the imagined danger. The L.A. Times called it the best sketch of the night—a judgment from that publication, rather than a universal ranking.

A Pilates class becomes a horror movie
A pretaped trailer recasts Pilates as horror: the class takes on a cult-like quality, tiny weights become part of the threat, and the Reformer contributes to the ominous atmosphere. Kaia Gerber appears in the parody. Unlike the board-game premise, this segment leans on the heightened look and rhythm of a movie trailer.
A retirement party gathers performers from different eras
Wiig plays an oxygen-tank-carrying smoker at a retirement party in an ensemble sketch that brings together performers from different eras of the show. It is one of several ways the episode connects Wiig’s return with SNL’s wider history without relying solely on the Five-Timers premise.

Wiig’s character work fills out the episode
Beyond the cameo-heavy opening, Wiig took on a string of distinct roles: Tootie, a fast-talking secretary; a hyperactive French dancer in “La Maison Du Bang”; and a mother delivering bad news at a go-kart track. She also brought back Aunt Linda on Weekend Update. The range of these characters gives the episode a different center of gravity from its star-packed monologue: the guests supply the reunion, while Wiig’s quick transformations carry much of the sketch comedy.
What songs did Raye perform?
Raye was the musical guest. The episode listing identifies her as the performer, and the L.A. Times recap reports that she performed “Escapism” and a medley of “Worth It” and “Let There Be Light.” Those are the performances described in the recap, not a complete track list for the episode. The official Peacock listing identifies the installment as Season 49, Episode 16, “Kristen Wiig: April 6, 2024.” The Boston Globe also confirms Wiig and Raye as host and musical guest, respectively: its episode coverage.
