Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →During the April 5, 2025 episode of Saturday Night Live, audience members shouted an unexpected profanity during Ego Nwodim’s audience-participation bit on “Weekend Update.” Reports say viewers heard different versions: some heard the word, while later broadcasts or online versions bleeped or muted it.
What happened during the joke?
Nwodim appeared as Ms. Eggy, her brash stand-up persona, alongside “Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che. She pitched herself for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner comedy slot after Amber Ruffin was dropped from the program, then riffed on the dinner and other subjects. TVLine and LateNighter report that the bit included a call-and-response prompt tied to Cory Booker’s Senate filibuster: Nwodim asked the audience to complete a line about what “these men” are. Some audience members answered with a profanity, prompting surprise and laughter from Nwodim, Jost, and Che.
The Independent described Booker’s speech as lasting 25 hours. The joke referenced that reported duration; the available accounts do not establish any further detail about the exchange beyond the descriptions they provide.
Why did viewers hear different versions?
Coverage differs on which viewers heard the uncensored response and how later versions handled it. TVLine says the profanity was bleeped on the original broadcast and muted entirely on later broadcasts. LateNighter reports that East Coast viewers and Peacock viewers heard it, while West Coast viewers and later online postings received a censored version. The Independent says the YouTube upload and Peacock version had the word bleeped and the audio cut. These reports do not support treating every broadcast or upload as identical.

What did Nwodim say after the audience responded?
TVLine reports that Nwodim corrected the expected response with “worth a damn, sucka,” then joked, “We finna get fined for that!” She also told the crowd, “Y’all gonna pay for that! Lorne gonna be mad at y’all!” The fine line was a joke in the moment, not confirmation that a fine was issued.
Was a fine actually issued?
The cited coverage does not report a fine or give an official explanation from NBC, the FCC, or the SNL production team for the edits. Nwodim’s remark should not be read as evidence that a penalty was imposed or as proof of the reason the versions differed.
