Four former housekeepers sued Smokey Robinson and his wife, Frances Robinson, in Los Angeles Superior Court on May 6, 2025, alleging sexual assault, rape and workplace violations. They seek at least $50 million. Those are allegations in a civil complaint, not findings of fact or a damages award. As reported on August 18, 2026, additional plaintiffs had joined the case and trial was scheduled for October 11, 2027.
What does the lawsuit accuse Smokey Robinson of?
The four original plaintiffs, who filed under Jane Doe pseudonyms, allege that Robinson sexually assaulted and raped them while they worked as housekeepers between 2007 and 2024. Their complaint also raises workplace and labor claims, including allegations of a hostile work environment and disputes concerning hours and pay. The women’s identities were withheld in early news coverage; the Associated Press reported that they appeared masked at a news conference and did not speak.
The complaint also names Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson. It alleges that she enabled the conduct and contributed to a hostile workplace. That description is the plaintiffs’ allegation, not an established finding about her role.
Who filed the complaint, and what are they seeking?
The case was brought by four former domestic workers in Los Angeles Superior Court. They seek at least $50 million in damages, according to the Associated Press and Los Angeles Times. The amount is what the plaintiffs requested; it has not been awarded by a court.

How have the Robinsons and the plaintiffs’ lawyers responded?
Attorney Christopher Frost, representing Smokey Robinson, called the allegations “vile” and “false” and said the defense would seek dismissal. He also told the Associated Press: “We ask anyone following this case to reserve judgment as the evidence comes to light and all the actual facts of the case unfold.” The plaintiffs’ attorneys said they stood behind their clients’ claims. These are opposing statements by the parties’ representatives, not court findings.
What did the anti-SLAPP ruling decide?
On April 23, 2026, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kevin Brazile struck the defamation claims in the Robinsons’ countersuit under California’s anti-SLAPP law, CBS Los Angeles reported. Some other counterclaims remained. The ruling addressed parts of the Robinsons’ countersuit; it did not decide whether the original plaintiffs’ allegations are true.
