In an October 2024 update, Slow Horses showrunner Will Smith said season 5 was near the end of filming, with a couple of days left, while editing was already underway. His “Don’t worry, it’s coming” was reassurance—not a premiere-date announcement.
What Will Smith said about season 5
Yahoo Entertainment reported on October 14, 2024, that Smith—identified as the series’ producer and showrunner—said: “We’ve nearly done season 5. We’ve got a couple of days to finish off on it, but we’re already into the edit, so it’s coming. Don’t worry, it’s coming. Not as quick as you want, but it’s coming.” The report attributes the interview to Collider. Read the syndicated report.

The quote is more precise than the report’s headline: Smith said a couple of filming days remained, not that filming had already wrapped. Editing had begun before filming was finished.
Did the update include a release date?
No. “It’s coming” was a general reassurance, and the October 2024 report gave no premiere date. Apple’s current series press page lists season 6 with a September 16, 2026 release date; that is a season 6 listing, not a season 5 date.

What book is season 5 based on?
A season guide identifies Mick Herron’s novel London Rules as the source material for season 5. See the season guide. The available information does not establish a particular edition or current retailer availability.

Apple describes Slow Horses as a darkly funny espionage drama about British intelligence agents assigned to a dumping-ground department of MI5 after career-ending mistakes, led by Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman. Its present-day season 6 listing shows why Smith’s October 2024 comments are best read as a historical production update rather than current release news.
