Janelle Brown reportedly asked her church for a “spiritual release” from her former husband, Kody Brown, but the available report does not establish whether the church granted the request or issued a formal ruling. TLC’s separate account of Sister Wives Season 21 describes Christine, Janelle, and Meri moving forward after polygamy; that show framing does not confirm the church matter.

That distinction matters: a reported request is not proof of a decision. The available information does not verify whether the church granted or denied it, when it acted, or what the outcome would mean under the church’s rules. Calling this a confirmed “church ruling” goes beyond what the accessible reporting establishes.
What TLC says about the next season
TLC’s September 14, 2026, Season 21 announcement said the season was scheduled to premiere on October 4, 2026. TLC described the season as the first in 16 years to focus on Christine, Janelle, and Meri, following their individual next chapters.

On its official show page, TLC describes the Browns as having left polygamy behind and says the Season 21 premiere follows Christine, Janelle, and Meri as they forge their own paths. These are the network’s descriptions of the series, not evidence about whether a church approved Janelle’s reported request.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unconfirmed
- Which church or authority considered the request.
- Whether the request was granted, denied, or is still pending.
- When a decision, if any, was made.
- What a spiritual release would change under that church’s rules.
Until a primary statement or more detailed, accessible reporting addresses those points, the careful description is that Janelle reportedly requested a spiritual release—not that a church ruling has been verified.
