Single Papa is an amiable, six-episode Hindi comedy whose biggest asset is Kunal Kemmu: his comic timing and warmth make Gaurav Gehlot’s unlikely route to fatherhood easy to enjoy. The series is less sure-footed as a whole. Its busy plot and unevenly handled social themes sometimes crowd out the family comedy it does best.
What is Single Papa about?
Gaurav Gehlot is newly divorced when he finds a baby in his car and decides to become the child’s father. The choice sets off a clash with his family, an adoption official and the expectations attached to who is supposed to care for a child. Netflix describes the show as a comedy; the story uses that setup to explore how a household adjusts when an adopted baby enters it.

Does Kunal Kemmu carry the comedy?
Yes. Both reviews published on the premiere date, 12 December 2025, identify Kemmu’s performance as a strength. Scroll’s Nandini Ramnath praises his comic timing and screen presence, especially his ability to make scripted lines feel spontaneous. India Today’s Sana Farzeen highlights how effectively he plays Gaurav’s transition toward becoming a loving father.

The supporting cast also helps give the family setting texture. The reviews single out Dayanand Shetty’s Parbat Singh, with Farzeen describing Shetty as a surprise performer. Those are individual critics’ judgments, not evidence of a wider audience consensus.
Where does the series lose momentum?
The premise gives Single Papa plenty to work with, but the storytelling can feel crowded. Ramnath describes a light series overstuffed with incident, trying to balance comedy, emotion and topical issues; she also finds some of its progressive wedding speeches forced. Farzeen similarly says some conflicts feel manufactured and the screenplay could be tighter.
The result is an uneven balance: the show can be warm and funny, but its plot sometimes reaches for another complication or a pointed speech when a quieter family moment might land better. Viewers looking for a tightly plotted comedy may find the scattershot pacing frustrating; those willing to follow a looser family ensemble are more likely to enjoy its lighter stretches.
How does it handle parenting and adoption themes?
The series attempts to raise questions about equal parenting, assumptions about gender and childcare, workplace support for new parents, and the adjustments a family faces when a newborn joins through adoption. These themes give the comedy a wider frame than Gaurav’s personal transformation alone.

They do not make the series a guide to adoption law or parenting practice. The reviews suggest the thematic commentary is not always integrated smoothly: Scroll finds some speeches heavy-handed, while India Today notes conflicts that feel forced. The show is more persuasive when those questions emerge from the family’s everyday reactions than when they arrive as overt statements.
Is Single Papa worth watching?
It is a reasonable pick for viewers in the mood for an affectionate, accessible family comedy and a strong Kunal Kemmu performance. Its six-episode format offers a contained watch, while its uneven pacing and occasionally blunt social commentary are real drawbacks. The critical case for giving it a try rests more on Kemmu’s charm and the show’s warmth than on consistently sharp writing.

Release and Season 2
Netflix announced Single Papa on 19 November 2025 and set its premiere for 12 December 2025. The company announced a Season 2 renewal on 4 January 2026, but that announcement did not give a release date. Netflix also said the series spent two weeks in its Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows and was No. 1 in India; those are Netflix’s own claims, not independently audited audience figures.
Netflix credits Ishita Moitra and Neeraj Udhwani as creators and co-producers, Shashank Khaitan as executive producer, and Khaitan, Hitesh Kewalya and Udhwani as directors. The series was produced by Aditya Pittie and Samar Khan under Juggernaut Productions. Its listed cast includes Kunal Kemmu, Prajakta Koli, Manoj Pahwa, Neha Dhupia, Ayesha Raza Mishra, Ankur Rathee, Isha Talwar, Dayanand Shetty, Hami Ali and Suhail Nayyar.
