In an interview published August 28, 2024, he attributed the flare-up to gasoline vapors igniting as he crouched to light the remaining debris. That sequence is Wilson’s account, not a finding from an independently reported fire investigation.
What happened to Sid Wilson?
Wilson told Fox News Digital that he had lit a wood pile and let it burn down. The next day, he checked it and saw debris still there. He added gasoline, then looked for a long branch to reach the pile when he tried to light it. Unable to find one, he crouched near the debris. He said that, although he had moved the gas can away, lingering vapors ignited and the fire exploded.
Wilson described burns to his face and arms and said he spent one night in the hospital before returning home. “My whole right arm is bandaged up, half of my left arm. My face is basically melted from nose down,” he said in the interview. He also said, “I’ve had better days, I guess, but I’m alive, so I’m doing good.” Both statements describe his condition at the time, in August 2024.
What did Slipknot say about his recovery?
In August 2024, Slipknot said Wilson had sustained burns across his body and was recovering with his family. Blabbermouth reported that the band expected him to join them onstage at Rocklahoma the following weekend. That was a plan at the time, not confirmation of his present health or touring schedule.

Is Sid Wilson okay now?
The cited health updates are from August 2024. Wilson said then that he was alive and doing well despite his injuries, and the band described him as recovering with family. Those reports do not establish his current medical condition.
Why gasoline around a fire is dangerous
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns: “Fire and Fuel Don’t Mix—Never use gasoline with fires or fire pits.” It says never to add liquid fuel after trying to start a fire, even if no flame is visible. Gasoline vapors can be invisible, ignite, and flash back toward a container, creating explosion and burn hazards. The CPSC advises having a garden hose, a container of water, or a fire extinguisher nearby before starting a fire. See its fire and fuel safety guidance.

For burn piles, check local rules and conditions
The National Interagency Fire Center notes that burn piles that are not properly contained or extinguished, as well as escaped open burns, can ignite wildland fires. Its guidance discusses keeping piles small, maintaining clearance, attending the burn, and having suppression tools available. These are safety considerations, not a universal statement of local law: burn restrictions and requirements vary, so check local authorities and current conditions before burning.
