Jeff Astrof said that Shining Vale Season 3 had been partially written and that he hoped another streamer would pick up the series. That is an update on the creators’ plans—not a renewal or production announcement. Starz canceled the show on December 20, 2023, and no pickup is established by the cited announcements.
What is the Season 3 update?
After Starz canceled Shining Vale, co-creator Jeff Astrof said that Season 3 had already been partially written and expressed hope that another streaming service would continue the series. His comments indicate that the creative team had begun developing more story, but they do not confirm that another service acquired the show or ordered new episodes. TV Series Finale’s report quotes Astrof’s update.

Was Shining Vale canceled?
Yes. On December 20, 2023, Starz confirmed it would not renew the series for a third season. The network said the show had not found a large enough audience to continue, and TVLine reported that the Season 2 finale would serve as the series finale. TVLine’s cancellation report includes Starz’s statement.
That decision followed the Season 2 finale, which aired December 1, 2023. Before the cancellation, Astrof told TheWrap that the ending set up a possible third season and that he had a seven-season plan. A planned arc is not evidence of a renewal: Starz subsequently declined to continue the show. TheWrap’s interview with Astrof covers his pre-cancellation comments.

What did the Season 2 cliffhanger leave unresolved?
Spoilers for the Season 2 finale: In “Redemption,” Pat gives birth, the baby is taken away to meet its father, and the reveal identifies Terry as Satan. Astrof said the writers wanted to explore what that discovery would do to Pat, particularly after childbirth. TheWrap’s finale interview discusses the intended direction for a possible third season.
The ending leaves two connected questions open: how Pat would respond to the possibility that her husband had manipulated her, and whether the supernatural events happened literally. Astrof described the series’ reality as ambiguous, inviting viewers to question whether Pat was possessed or experiencing psychosis. The finale therefore creates a story hook without settling its own explanation.
Does Hulu’s listing mean Season 3 is coming?
No. Hulu’s official Shining Vale listing shows the two existing seasons and 16 episodes. It confirms that the series is listed there, not that Hulu revived it or ordered a third season. Catalog availability and a new production order are separate things.
