Shawn Levy was attached as an executive producer to a reported live-action Dungeons & Dragons series for Netflix called The Forgotten Realms. Hasbro described the project as in development in 2025, and writer-showrunner Drew Crevello was named in February 2025 reporting. Those are the latest confirmed status details established here—not confirmation that the series is still active in October 2026. No release date, cast, or production schedule has been confirmed in the sources cited below.
What is Shawn Levy’s Dungeons & Dragons Netflix project?
The project is known in reporting as The Forgotten Realms, referring to the fantasy setting of the tabletop role-playing game. Hasbro’s 2025 investor presentation identified the series as in development at Netflix and named Levy as executive producer. What’s on Netflix reported on February 14, 2025 that it was a live-action adaptation and named Drew Crevello as writer-showrunner.
Levy discussed the adaptation challenge in an interview covered by GamesRadar+ in November 2025. He said, “You’re adapting a world and a lexicon and a spirit, but story needs to be invented largely from scratch. And it needs to be invented in a way that feels organic to everything that’s great about DnD.” That describes the creative task, not a plot summary or confirmation of a finished script.
Is the series still in development, and when will it be released?
The cited material does not establish whether The Forgotten Realms remains in development as of October 2026. Hasbro’s statement and Levy’s interview describe its status in 2025; neither provides a later production update. The sources also do not confirm a release date, filming start, episode order, cast, or production schedule. Accordingly, no premiere window can be stated as confirmed.

Is Netflix’s Ravenloft series the same project?
No. The Netflix D&D project reported in September 2026 is Ravenloft, a separate live-action series. TheWrap reported on September 3, 2026 that it is a gothic horror drama about the origins of Strahd von Zarovich, with John August writing and producers including Alfonso Cuarón and Hasbro Entertainment’s team. Those setting, premise, and creative details apply to Ravenloft, not Levy’s The Forgotten Realms. The report does not clarify the current status of Levy’s project.
