In a November 2023 interview with People, Shannen Doherty credited her mother, Rosa, with shaping the determination that carried her through life. “I come from a woman who was determined,” Doherty said, recalling that Rosa had been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm when Shannen was eight. Doherty died on July 13, 2024, at 53.
What Shannen Doherty said about Rosa
Doherty’s words came from a November 2023 conversation with People, later recounted in a July 2024 report. She described her own tenacity as something inherited from her mother: “I come from a woman who was determined.” People’s report, via Yahoo, connected that reflection to Rosa’s brain aneurysm diagnosis when Shannen was eight. The report does not provide further medical details.
Her mother’s influence in the context of Doherty’s life
Doherty became widely known as Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210 and later starred in Charmed. Her career brought her into the public eye, while her comment about Rosa offered a personal explanation for the persistence she associated with herself. A 2024 Guardian obituary said Beverly Hills, 90210 reached more than 21 million U.S. viewers; it did not specify a season or measurement method, so the figure should not be read as an episode rating or a current audience count. The Guardian’s obituary also notes that Rosa owned a beauty salon.
Keep the later family reflections separate
After Doherty’s death, Rosa spoke publicly about grief and the final weeks she spent with her daughter. ABC News reported her words, “A child should never go before a parent,” and her description of that time together as “a gift.” Those remarks were made in September 2024, in a different context from Shannen’s November 2023 reflection on her mother’s determination. ABC News reported Rosa’s reflections.
