For the 2025 Perth season of Deborah Frances-White’s play Never Have I Ever, Northbridge’s Shadow Wine Bar offered Black Swan State Theatre Company ticket holders a 45-minute pre-show dinner for $35 per person. The season at Heath Ledger Theatre ran from June 14 to July 6, 2025, and has ended; the dinner terms below describe that past collaboration, not an offer available now.
What the Shadow Wine Bar collaboration offered
PerthNow reported on June 12, 2025, that Shadow Wine Bar was partnering with Black Swan State Theatre Company of Western Australia for a dinner-before-theatre arrangement. Guests ate at Shadow Wine Bar in Northbridge, then went to the nearby Heath Ledger Theatre for the performance. PerthNow’s report described the special menu; Black Swan’s event listing set out the offer’s details.
The historical package was for Black Swan ticket holders and cost $35 per person. It was designed as a 45-minute meal. Guests booked directly with Shadow Wine Bar and showed their theatre ticket on the night. These were the conditions for the 2025 season, not current booking information.

- Pan-fried ricotta gnocchi with king oyster mushrooms and burnt butter
- Rigatoni with lamb ragu, olives, chilli and pecorino
Three wine options were listed: Maison Soleil Syrah from the Adelaide Hills, South Australia; Stormflower Semillon Sauvignon Blanc from Wilyabrup in Margaret River; and Ate Brut Sparkling from the Adelaide Hills, South Australia.
The Perth production of Never Have I Ever
Black Swan’s production page lists the season at Heath Ledger Theatre from June 14 to July 6, 2025. The listed running time was 2 hours 10 minutes, including interval. Historical ticket prices were listed from $30 to $129, with demand-based pricing subject to change without notice. Those figures describe the past run and should not be read as current ticket availability or pricing. Black Swan’s production page also carries the production information and content notice.
Written by Deborah Frances-White, Never Have I Ever follows Jacq and Kas, whose boutique restaurant has gone bust. They invite old friends to a final dinner to tell them their investment is lost. The gathering turns into a dangerous drinking game, bringing questions of money, class, identity, infidelity, power and sexual politics to the table.

The official listing warned of mature themes, coarse language, sexual references, depictions of drug and alcohol use, and strobe lighting. The work was promoted as adult theatre, but the specific warnings are the useful guide for prospective audience members.

The meal echoed the play’s setting: a dinner among friends that begins with one purpose and grows more volatile. Frances-White told PerthNow she wanted to explore ideas “with humour and heart,” rather than present the play in a sanctimonious way. She added: “But it’s important to allow ourselves to explore points of view through the characters’ experiences. We just need those characters to be multi-layered and enjoyable to spend time with, even when they’re flawed and feckless.”
Black Swan’s page reproduced two review lines that capture the production’s mix of dinner-party tension and debate. The Sunday Times called it “A SALTY, VOLATILE CROSS BETWEEN INDECENT PROPOSAL AND A SATANIC EDITION OF COME DINE WITH ME.” The Times described it as “A DRAMA THAT WILL SEND YOU OUT INTO THE NIGHT, ARGUING AND LAUGHING.”

For a short pre-show window, confirm the meal’s expected duration and travel time to the theatre; also check dietary suitability and whether any offer requires a ticket or advance reservation.
Black Swan’s event listing also mentioned Chicho Gelato as a nearby dessert suggestion, but that reference does not establish a current theatre promotion or booking arrangement.
