Seven’s 2015 schedule revamp shelved the next planned series of House Rules and replaced Million Dollar Minute, according to a 30 August 2015 report. The move did not establish that House Rules was permanently cancelled: a later Seven programming slate listed it among returning shows.
What the 2015 report said
A report by Colin Vickery and Siobhan Duck, published by news.com.au on 30 August 2015, reported that Seven had shelved the next series of House Rules and was replacing Million Dollar Minute as part of a major schedule revamp.
The specific reason for shelving the next series is not established in the available reporting. The headline supports a scheduling change, but not a particular explanation such as ratings, costs or a permanent cancellation.
What replaced Million Dollar Minute?
Secondary coverage of the schedule change said The Chase Australia replaced Million Dollar Minute and Deal or No Deal. That replacement detail is attributed to TV Tonight’s account, rather than to a verified primary Seven announcement.

#1 Best Overall
- NO ‘UMMs’ or ‘ERRs’ ALLOWED – One player has to describe random items to their team mates to get points – but the other team gets points if the player says ‘Umm’, ‘Err’, ‘Ah’ or uses any verbal fillers
- DING DING! YOU’VE BEEN CAUGHT OUT! – The opposing team has to listen to the player describing the words to their team, if they hear ‘Umm’, they ring the bell and collect a point each time
- LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY: Its harder than you think trying to not say the forbidden sounds and even harder with the other team giggling each time they catch their opponents out
- MADE FOR GAME NIGHT: Crazy card game combos, a noisy bell and the other team watching your every move… this is the ultimate party game for families, adults and big groups. Plus it's quick to learn and easy to play!
- SPICE IT UP: Once the basics are mastered, new challenges add to the fun. For example, you’ve gotta read all your cards in a high-pitched voice or you can’t use words beginning with ‘C’. In this family friendly adult party game, new challenges keep on coming.
Was House Rules cancelled?
Not on the evidence of this announcement alone. “Shelved” described the next series being put aside at that point; it did not prove the format had ended permanently. Seven’s later 2015 programming announcement included House Rules among returning programs, indicating a pause or deferral in the schedule rather than a confirmed end to the franchise.

Years later, Seven and Endemol Shine Australia announced My Reno Rules, a separate renovation competition planned for Seven and 7plus in 2026. The official description says four teams will renovate two neighbouring homes. Endemol Shine Australia’s announcement identifies the company as producer, while Banijay Rights identifies itself as the international distributor. This later project is context for Seven’s renovation programming, not an explanation for its 2015 decision about House Rules.
