Send Help turns a workplace power struggle into a survival contest: after a plane crash leaves overlooked employee Linda Liddle and her boss Bradley Preston stranded on a deserted island, they must depend on each other while old grievances and a fight for control come to the surface. Sam Raimi’s film mixes survival-thriller stakes with horror and dark comedy; calling it the “most twisted thriller of 2026 so far” is a matter of taste, not an objective ranking.
What is Send Help about?
Linda Liddle, played by Rachel McAdams, and Bradley Preston, played by Dylan O’Brien, are the only survivors of a plane crash. Stranded on a deserted island, the two work colleagues have to cooperate to stay alive. The studio’s synopsis frames their ordeal as a battle of wills and wits.

The setup carries their office relationship into a place where job titles cannot settle every dispute. Linda has been overlooked at work; Bradley is her boss. Their competing strengths and resentments shape the island conflict, making the survival problem inseparable from the question of who gets to make the decisions. That power reversal is part of the premise’s appeal, rather than a separate plot twist.
What kind of film is it?
20th Century Studios classifies Send Help as comedy, horror, and thriller, and describes it as a survival horror thriller. The combination is deliberate: the danger and grotesque set pieces sit alongside dark humor, while Raimi’s pulp sensibility gives the story an unruly, heightened edge.
#1 Best Overall
That tonal mix is central to how the premise works. The film is not simply a straight survival drama or a conventional workplace satire. The strained partnership supplies the conflict; horror and comedy push it toward something more volatile. Rotten Tomatoes’ first-reviews coverage highlights the film’s mischievous, horrific character and its competition theme. The Atlantic, in its January 31, 2026 review, reads the premise as a fantasy of workplace power reversal and calls the film a deliberately pulpy horror-comedy. Those are identifiable critical interpretations, not evidence of a universal consensus.
Raimi’s approach and the creative team
Raimi directed and produced Send Help. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the screenplay, and Danny Elfman composed the original music. Raimi described his effort to balance his recognizable style with the material in a D23 interview published January 29, 2026: “I tried to keep ‘Sam Raimi’ in the box he belongs in, as I was trying to service the script and the characters.”
Rank #2
- The Help (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy)
That comment offers a useful lens on the film’s blend of character conflict and pulp excess: Raimi is not presenting the island ordeal as a neutral survival exercise, but shaping it around the uneasy relationship at its center.
Is “the most twisted thriller of 2026 so far” a fair verdict?
“Most twisted” is a critical judgment, not a measurable title the film has objectively won. The available critical coverage supports describing Send Help as darkly comic, grotesque, and pulpy, but it does not establish an authoritative ranking of 2026 thrillers. A fair spoiler-light verdict is that the film’s hook is the collision of survival pressure with an office hierarchy that the island cannot simply erase.
