Its clue-driven suspense is engaging, but the series keeps viewers at an emotional distance from its victim and her family—and its six-episode run ends on a cliffhanger rather than resolving the mystery.
What is Search: The Naina Murder Case about?
A young girl named Naina is raped and murdered, and her body is found in a politician’s car. The crime draws a broad set of characters into the investigation, which is led by seasoned police officer ACP Sanyukta Das. The story’s central engine is the search for answers; this spoiler-light overview stops at the investigation’s premise.
How does Konkona Sensharma’s performance shape the series?
Sensharma plays Sanyukta as a controlled, determined investigator whose work leaves little room for her family life. Nandini Ramnath wrote in Scroll.in: “Search takes its tonal cues from Konkona Sensharma’s laser-focused Sanyukta.” That focus gives the series a clinical quality: the investigation stays in the foreground, while emotional warmth and domestic concerns often recede. The Indian Express review likewise describes the push and pull between Sanyukta’s professional and family lives.
Sensharma is the show’s clearest point of continuity as the investigation moves among a large web of characters. Hindustan Times also identifies her performance as one of the series’ highlights. The ensemble broadens the case’s reach, though the number of people orbiting it can make the story feel less intimate.

Does the murder mystery work?
The series’ appeal lies chiefly in following the investigation and watching its clues and complications build. Scroll finds the suspense gripping, and Hindustan Times describes the show as “gripping but uneven.” The Indian Express is more reserved, rating it 2.5 out of 5; Cinema Express takes a more negative view of the narrative. Taken together, the reviews point to a thriller that can hold attention through its case and lead performance without delivering an equally strong emotional or narrative payoff.
The victim and her family remain at a distance
Naina’s murder is the event that sets the plot in motion, but Scroll argues that the series does not create enough emotional investment in Naina or her grieving parents. That distance matters: the case has urgency as a police investigation, yet its human cost does not always land with equal force.

The ending is not a standalone resolution
The six-episode season ends on a cliffhanger. Ramnath writes that “Search frustratingly turns off the tap just when the flow is the strongest, ending on a cliffhanger after six episodes.” Viewers looking for a self-contained mystery with a clear resolution should know that the season pauses before providing one.
Is it based on The Killing?
Yes. Scroll describes Search: The Naina Murder Case as based on the Danish series Forbrydelsen, known internationally as The Killing; Cinema Express calls it an official adaptation. The available descriptions establish the connection, but do not set out episode-by-episode plot changes. The series can be approached as a Hindi-language crime drama in its own setting, without assuming that it reproduces the Danish show beat for beat.
