The Swordsman realizes this and tears Puck from his own chest, dying to stop the escape. Puck is left trapped, and its return to the beginning suggests the same attempt may happen again.
What happens at the end of “PAC-MAN: Circle”?
The episode begins with a humanoid awakening in a chamber with no clear memory. Puck calls him the Chosen and sends him into a dangerous maze. There, the Swordsman survives by eating creatures and fruit and fighting with a sword. Puck presents these ordeals as training that will make him strong enough to defeat the threats ahead.
That explanation turns out to be a manipulation. Puck needs the Swordsman’s body and strength to confront the ghosts guarding the maze. When the Swordsman understands Puck’s real aim, he reaches into his chest and pulls Puck out. The act kills him, but it prevents Puck from escaping at that moment. The maze closes with Puck still inside, where it immediately resumes striking at the barrier.
Is Puck good or evil?
Puck is the antagonist of this episode’s revealed setup: it misleads the Chosen and uses the Swordsman as a means to escape. The apparent rescue mission is really a plan to acquire a host capable of facing the maze’s guardians. The ghosts, meanwhile, are presented as protecting the golden sphere rather than simply hunting the Chosen.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The episode does not need to explain Puck’s entire nature to make the reversal clear. The key distinction is between what Puck claims—helping the Swordsman—and what its actions reveal: it is trying to get out, and the Swordsman is useful to that goal.
Why does the Swordsman pull Puck out of himself?
By the final confrontation, the Swordsman recognizes that Puck is dangerous and intends to leave the maze using him. Removing Puck is his way to stop that plan. Because Puck is tied to his body, the choice costs the Swordsman his life; the episode shows the sacrifice as an immediate refusal to let Puck escape through him.

Does the ending mean the cycle will repeat?
The ending points toward a loop rather than a permanent resolution. Puck is back at the starting chamber, another Chosen is implied, and Puck attacks the barrier again. Together, those beats suggest it has tried this escape strategy before and will try again.
That cycle is the most grounded reading of the ending, but the episode does not establish a definitive allegory or explain how many times the events have occurred. The concrete ending is that the Swordsman stops this attempt; the recurrence is suggested by Puck’s return to the beginning.

How does the episode connect to Pac-Man?
“PAC-MAN: Circle” turns familiar game imagery into a darker story: an eating protagonist, fruit, a maze, ghosts, and a golden sphere all have counterparts in the episode. But it reverses the expected roles. Puck, the sphere-like figure, is manipulative rather than an uncomplicated hero, while the ghosts serve as guards keeping it contained.
Eating and fighting also take on a double meaning. They help the Swordsman survive, but they also make him a stronger tool for Puck’s escape plan. The episode’s emphasis on repetition similarly cuts both ways: the Chosen’s repeated trials build strength, while Puck’s repeated attempts appear to bring it back to the same prison. That is an interpretation of the events, not a confirmed statement of creator intent.
