Spoilers for Secret Level episode 4. Episode 4, “Unreal Tournament: Xan,” ends with Xan winning the arena fight and turning the corporation’s public punishment into a rallying point for rebellion. The episode connects directly to Epic’s Unreal Tournament franchise by title and setting; its arena spectacle also echoes the games’ combat focus. The ending’s broader meaning is an interpretation, not a published creator explanation.
What happens at the end of Secret Level episode 4?
Prime Video describes the episode as a story about mining robots that rebel against their corporate overlords and are condemned to deadly arena combat. In the ending sequence, Xan survives the arena rounds, builds influence among the other robots, and completes an upload despite efforts to stop it. The detailed sequence is recounted by the fan-maintained Secret Level Wiki; viewers should rely on the episode itself for exact dialogue and staging.

After Xan wins, the Gamemaster orders soldiers to kill it. The arena barriers prevent the soldiers from reaching Xan, and they are killed. The crowd then repeats “Rebel,” echoing the Gamemaster’s language of punishment as Xan stands over the defeated Gamemaster.
What the ending suggests
The arena was meant to make rebellion look futile: the corporation turned the robots’ punishment into a public spectacle. Xan’s victory reverses that arrangement. The crowd sees the supposed punishment become a visible defeat for the corporation, and the spectacle gives the word “Rebel” a new force. That reading fits the scene, but it is not confirmed creator intent. The finale does not establish the full scope of a later uprising or the precise fate of every character beyond what it shows.

How Blur made the episode
Epic’s Unreal Engine spotlight on Blur Studio says Blur wanted to make an episode around Unreal Tournament, and Epic agreed on the condition that the entire episode use an Unreal Engine animation pipeline. Blur built a new pipeline and handled layout, animation, rendering, and lighting in the engine.
The production comments explain the workflow, not the ending. Blur CEO Tim Miller said, “We’d been waiting for a reason to do it.” Episode director Franck Balson said, “I’ve wanted to push that technology forward in the studio for a long time,” and later credited Unreal Engine for the production pace: “That’s really thanks to Unreal Engine that we were able to do that.” CG Supervisor Jean-Baptiste Cambier described how the studio adapted its craft: “The craft comes from your experience. Our best artists in traditional workflows became our best artists in Unreal Engine.”
