Is Sean Kingston still awaiting extradition to Florida?
No. Kingston waived his right to contest extradition in California on May 28, 2024, and agreed to return to Florida. Reports said he had been returned to South Florida and booked into Broward County jail by June 2–3. What happened after Kingston was arrested in California?
May 23, 2024: Arrest on a Florida warrant
Kingston was arrested near Fort Irwin, California, on a Florida warrant. On the same day, his mother, Janice Turner, was arrested in Florida during a search at a home associated with him. Arrest coverage described allegations including fraud and theft; those were allegations, not findings of guilt. Kingston’s attorney, Robert Rosenblatt, said at the time: “We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother.” That was a contemporaneous defense statement, not a later account of the outcome. May 28 to early June 2024: Extradition and booking

July 2024: Separate federal charges
On July 19, 2024, federal prosecutors announced charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. These federal charges were distinct from the Florida state allegations tied to the original warrant. U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Florida.
August 2025: Federal conviction and sentence
On August 15, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice reported that a federal jury had convicted Kingston and that he was sentenced to 42 months in prison. DOJ described the federal scheme as involving more than $1 million in property. Those figures and the conviction refer to the federal case, not a resolution of every Florida state charge. How the Florida allegations differ from the federal case
The 2024 Florida warrant allegations included an organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, identity theft, and related offenses. The later federal prosecution charged wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud and resulted in the reported jury conviction and sentence. These are separate proceedings: the federal outcome should not be treated as a finding on every state count. The sources cited here do not establish the final disposition of each Florida charge. They do not establish Kingston’s custody location or appeal status as of October 7, 2026, nor do they resolve every Florida state count.
