Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were indicted in July 2024 on federal fraud charges. The case later resulted in convictions: a jury found both guilty in March 2025, and Kingston was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison while Turner received five years. The indictment alleged more than $1 million in property was obtained through false payment claims; the later verdict and sentences are the case’s key developments.
What Sean Kingston and his mother were indicted for
On July 19, 2024, federal prosecutors in the Southern District of Florida announced that Kisean Paul Anderson, known as Sean Kingston, and his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, had each been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud. The indictment alleged that they claimed bank wires or other monetary transfers had been made to pay for vehicles, jewelry and other goods when, prosecutors said, the transfers had not occurred. The Justice Department described the alleged value of the property as more than $1 million.

Those were allegations at the charging stage, not findings of guilt. The Justice Department’s July 2024 charging announcement said defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. A jury later returned guilty verdicts.
What the jury found
In March 2025, a federal jury convicted Kingston and Turner of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud each, according to the Justice Department’s April 4, 2025 announcement. The verdict therefore covered four wire-fraud counts per defendant, rather than all five wire-fraud counts each that had been charged in the indictment.

Prosecutors’ account of the trial evidence
The DOJ said evidence at trial described activity between April 2023 and March 2024. According to its summary, Kingston contacted sellers through social media to arrange purchases of high-end merchandise, used offers of social media promotion or references to famous potential clients to build trust, and sent fake wire receipts as proof of payment even though funds had not been transferred from legitimate accounts.
The merchandise identified in the DOJ’s conviction release included a bulletproof Escalade, watches and a 232-inch LED television. Prosecutors said some vendors were never paid, while others received payment only after lawsuits or law-enforcement involvement. These details are the government’s summary of trial evidence.

Prison sentences and restitution
On August 15, 2025, U.S. District Judge David S. Leibowitz sentenced Kingston to 42 months in federal prison. Turner had been sentenced to five years on July 23, 2025. The dates and terms were reported by the Justice Department in its sentencing announcement.
A September 2025 stipulated restitution order, reproduced by Midpage, states that Kingston and Turner were jointly and severally ordered to pay $38,500 to a victim identified as B.C. “Joint and several” means the obligation may be collected from either defendant or both, subject to the order’s terms. The order is available as a secondary reproduction; it does not establish here whether the money has been paid or whether additional restitution was ordered.

What remains unclear from the available case updates
The DOJ releases identify the prosecution as case 24-cr-60126 in the Southern District of Florida. They also identify the U.S. Secret Service’s Miami office and the Broward Sheriff’s Office as investigative agencies. The sources cited here do not establish any later appeal, current custody status or the current status of restitution payments, so those developments should not be inferred from the reported verdict and sentences.
