The Associated Press reported the move on October 31, 2025, but said the exact date and time of the transfer were unclear.
Where was Sean Combs transferred?
Combs was moved to the Federal Correctional Institution at Fort Dix, a federal prison in New Jersey on the grounds of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The Associated Press described the facility as about 34 miles (55 kilometers) east of Philadelphia and cited the Bureau of Prisons inmate listing. Before the transfer, Combs had been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Why was Fort Dix requested?
Combs’s lawyers asked the court to recommend Fort Dix, pointing to its residential drug-treatment program, family visitation, and rehabilitation opportunities. In the request, lawyer Teny Geragos wrote that the facility would best allow him “to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts.” Associated Press report on the request, October 6, 2025.

The request and the final placement were separate decisions. At sentencing, the judge recommended a geographic location selected by the defense and consideration for qualifying treatment, but did not choose Fort Dix itself. The Bureau of Prisons determines the specific facility. The public docket mirror records the court’s distinction between its recommendation and the Bureau’s designation: USA v. Combs docket mirror.
What sentence is he serving?
On October 3, 2025, Combs was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison after a jury convicted him in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The jury acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges. The convictions and acquittals are distinct parts of the verdict; the sentence followed the two convictions. The sentence date and case record are reflected in the public docket mirror, and the sentence was also reported by the Associated Press.

When is Combs expected to be released?
There is no single, fixed projected date established by the reports available here. The AP reported May 8, 2028 as the projected release date on October 31, 2025. On October 7, 2026, E! reported March 8, 2028, citing Bureau of Prisons records it reviewed, while Us Weekly reported March 2, 2028, also citing BOP records. The two later reports conflict by six days, and a projected date can change; it should not be treated as a guaranteed release date.
