Scott Speedman played Michael Corvin in Underworld and returned for Underworld: Evolution. But the available interviews do not establish why he was absent from later films, or that the franchise changed his career forever. What Speedman did say about the sequel was that Michael was secondary to Selene’s story—and that filming it was physically demanding.
Did Scott Speedman return for Underworld: Evolution?
Yes. Speedman reprised Michael Corvin in the 2006 sequel, which he called Underworld 2 in a 2005 interview with ComingSoon.net.

He described the production as demanding: “ [Underworld 2] was physical. That I’ll brag about, that was really physical for me.” The quotation’s wording comes from the 2005 interview; the bracketed film title is part of the published quote.
What did Speedman say about Michael Corvin’s place in the story?
Speedman characterized Michael as a supporting figure in a story centered on Selene. In the same interview, he said: “It’s more I’m the sidekick, a good one, but I’m the sidekick to be honest. It’s really [Seline’s] movie in a sense.” The source spells the character’s name “Seline” in that passage.

Why wasn’t Scott Speedman in the later Underworld movies?
The available sources do not establish why Speedman did not reprise Michael in later films. In an interview around the release of Underworld: Awakening, directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein discussed Michael’s absence as part of the film’s development, but did not say Speedman chose to leave or explain his motivation. Their comments are in a ComingSoon.net interview.
That distinction matters: a character’s absence from a story does not, by itself, reveal why the actor is not in the film. Without a direct statement from Speedman or another reliable account, claims that he gave a “brutally honest” explanation—or that he personally decided not to return—are not substantiated.

Did the franchise change Speedman’s career forever?
That claim is not established by the interviews available here. A 2021 Esquire interview discusses Speedman’s later television work and career choices, but does not say that Underworld changed his career forever. The evidence supports a narrower account: he played Michael in the first two films, spoke about the sequel’s physical demands and described his character as a sidekick in Selene’s story.
