The “legendary horror character” returning in Scary Movie 6 is Ghostface, the masked-killer figure at the center of the film’s parody premise. The comedy reunites the franchise’s Core Four to spoof horror conventions; it is not a canonical Scream installment. The film opened in U.S. theaters on June 5, 2026, and began streaming exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. on September 3, 2026.
Which horror character is in Scary Movie 6?
Ghostface is the masked killer the returning characters face in the film’s premise. The Associated Press describes Ghostface as the pursuer, and Fandango’s cast listing credits Dave Sheridan as Doofy/Ghostface. That identifies the figure as part of Scary Movie’s comic use of the familiar masked-killer setup—not as a crossover that makes this film part of the Scream story.
Paramount’s announcement says the film targets horror conventions such as reboots, remakes, sequels and “legacy” stories. The AP characterizes it as a collection of loosely connected parody scenes drawing on newer horror films and topical references.
Who returns for the sequel?
The film reunites the four leads known as the Core Four:

How Scary Movie 6 differs from Scream VI
Both titles invoke Ghostface, but they serve different purposes. Scary Movie 6 is a parody comedy using the masked-killer figure to spoof horror; Scream VI is a slasher film. Paramount’s April 24, 2023 announcement said Scream VI would begin digital purchase and Paramount+ streaming in the U.S. and Canada on April 25, 2023. That historical announcement does not establish where Scream VI is currently available.
