For a physical copy, confirm the format, edition, region compatibility and stock with the retailer for your market before buying; the official Paramount Movies title page identifies DVD/Blu-ray and streaming formats, but does not establish a specific retailer listing or current availability.

Cast and premise
The four central returning performers are Marlon Wayans as Shorty, Shawn Wayans as Ray, Anna Faris as Cindy and Regina Hall as Brenda. Paramount also names returning cast members Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott. Paramount describes the plot as the returning characters facing a new masked killer. The studio’s promotional description says the satire takes aim at horror conventions and franchise trends, including reboots, remakes, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories and “final chapters.” Paramount+ specifically names the Megan and Smile movies, Sinners and Wednesday among the targets. These are the studio’s descriptions of the film’s premise and references, rather than a scene-by-scene account.
How the 2026 film fits the franchise
Paramount+ calls the new film the sixth installment, arriving more than 13 years after Scary Movie 5 and 26 years after the original. The service classifies the series as horror-comedy and parody. Its guide lists all six franchise films; it counts the 2026 film’s theatrical and extended cuts as separate entries in the collection.

The film’s opening was reported as a franchise best, but opening-weekend estimates and a later studio-reported worldwide total are different measures. The Associated Press reported a $105.5 million global launch based on studio estimates, and described the production budget as $30 million. In a June 7, 2026 report, AP also said the film topped weekend ticket sales with an estimated $55 million in Friday-through-Sunday sales in U.S. and Canadian theaters. That domestic weekend estimate is not the global launch figure or a final lifetime gross.

In its August 19 streaming announcement, Paramount later reported more than $230 million worldwide at the box office. That is the studio’s reported total, not an independent final accounting by AP. AP quoted FranchiseRe consultant David A. Gross describing the opening as “an outstanding opening for a comedy sequel this far into the series.” Gross also called it “a huge bounceback after the last episode crashed in 2013 when Anna Faris and Regina Hall were excluded.” Both comments refer to the 2026 opening-weekend context.
