Samsung announced a redesigned TV Plus experience on August 13, 2025, with a personalized home screen, machine-learning recommendations, richer browsing, closer links between live and on-demand programs, and improved discovery of live events. It is an upgrade to Samsung’s existing free, ad-supported streaming service—not a new paid tier. The announcement describes the intended features, but does not establish that they are available on every Samsung TV or explain exactly how the recommendation system works.
What changed in Samsung TV Plus?
Samsung describes five main changes to TV Plus. They focus on helping viewers find something to watch, rather than adding a new kind of programming service.
- A more immersive browsing experience: A redesigned interface uses richer imagery and metadata to give viewers more context about programs before they start watching.
- A personalized home screen: Samsung says the screen adapts to viewing and engagement habits, promoting channels, shows, and genres it considers relevant.
- Machine-learning discovery: Samsung says an enhanced discovery engine uses machine learning to tailor recommendations to individual tastes.
- Closer live and on-demand browsing: The redesign is intended to make it easier to move between linear channels and on-demand programming.
- More prominent live events: Samsung says sports, concerts, breaking news, and other live programming will be easier to discover.
These are announced product features, not independently measured results. Samsung has not published evidence showing how much the redesign reduces browsing time or improves recommendation quality. Samsung’s announcement also does not provide a universal release date for every model.
What does “AI-powered personalization” mean here?
In Samsung’s description, “AI-powered” refers to machine-learning recommendations and content discovery: ranking and surfacing programs, genres, and channels based on viewing and engagement habits. The practical aim is to make a large free-streaming catalog easier to browse and to connect live channels with on-demand options.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is narrower than the phrase “AI-powered” may suggest. Samsung has not described TV Plus as a service that generates shows or movies, nor announced a chatbot for browsing its catalog. It has not publicly explained the recommendation model, the specific signals used, or whether viewers can reset or fine-tune a personalization profile. The announcement also does not establish that recommendations follow a viewer across TV, phone, web, monitor, and appliance.
Is TV Plus a new streaming service, and what does it cost?
No. Samsung TV Plus is Samsung’s existing free, ad-supported streaming television service, often called a FAST service. It combines live channels with on-demand programming. Samsung says an internet connection is required; the service is presented as free, with no subscription fee or credit card required. Viewers should expect advertising, and channels or programs can change or disappear without notice, according to Samsung’s support information.
Samsung identifies TV Plus access on Smart TVs, Galaxy devices, Smart Monitors, Family Hub appliances, and the web in supported markets. Availability and features may differ across regions and devices; the Samsung TV Plus page is a starting point for checking current options.

Which Samsung devices get the makeover?
It is important to separate access to TV Plus from access to its announced redesign. Samsung’s support documentation says TV Plus is available on Samsung Smart TVs and projectors from 2016 onward in select areas. That describes the service, not compatibility with the new personalized interface.
Samsung tied the redesigned experience to its 2025 TV experience and says some associated features are limited to select 2025 models. Its announcement notes that Vision AI features vary by model and region, and excludes the Q6F, Crystal, and certain special models from some features. It does not give a complete model-by-model compatibility list or a precise worldwide rollout schedule. Check the exact model and local Samsung support information rather than assuming an older TV—or every 2025 TV—has the same features.

- Open Samsung TV Plus, then press the channel up/down button inward to open the channel guide.
- Navigate to the left side of the screen and select Edit.
- Select the channels to remove, choose Delete, then select Save and exit.
Samsung notes that new channels may be added later, so channel editing may need to be repeated. These instructions and the autorun setting are covered in Samsung’s TV Plus support page.
What viewing data may be involved?
Personalized recommendations raise a reasonable privacy question: what information informs them? Samsung’s TV Plus announcement says the home screen learns from viewing and engagement habits, but does not map each recommendation signal to a specific data source.

Samsung says ACR operates when a viewer has opted into Viewing Information Services, and that privacy settings can be changed or the feature disabled. This is relevant privacy context, but Samsung’s documentation does not establish that ACR is the technical engine behind every TV Plus recommendation. Menu paths for privacy controls vary by model and software. Look in Settings for sections such as General & Privacy, Terms & Privacy, Viewing Information Services, or the Smart Hub Privacy Notice. A shared living-room TV also presents a practical limitation: Samsung’s announcement does not explain whether the redesigned experience offers separate TV Plus recommendation profiles for different household members.
Does TV Plus require a Samsung account?
Samsung’s US pages are not fully consistent. Its TV Plus marketing page says viewers can watch without creating an account and lists account-linked features such as continue watching, favorite channels, channel editing, reminders, and watch lists. Newer support guidance says a Samsung account is required for TV Plus and other network-based Smart TV services. The requirement may depend on the model, software setup, market, and current Samsung policy; check the setup prompt and local support page for the device you use.

TV Plus personalization should not be confused with other features in Samsung’s broader Vision AI lineup. For example, Click to Search can work with Live TV and TV Plus on select 2025 models to provide information about content and performers. Samsung documents it separately from the personalized TV Plus home screen: Click to Search support and related feature guidance.

Microsoft Copilot is another separate conversational experience on supported 2025 TVs and monitors; Samsung does not identify it as the recommendation engine for TV Plus. See Samsung’s Copilot support page.
Is the redesigned TV Plus worth trying?
For viewers who already have a compatible Samsung device, TV Plus is a no-subscription way to sample live channels and on-demand programming. A personalized front page and more visible live events may make discovery more convenient, especially for casual viewing or as a supplement to paid services. Whether recommendations are actually useful will depend on individual viewing habits and on how the service performs on the specific device.
The trade-offs are advertising, a catalog that can change, limited transparency about personalization, and uneven feature availability. Viewers who want stable catalogs, separate household profiles, no ads, or detailed control over recommendation signals should not assume the redesign addresses those needs. The service can be tried without buying a new Samsung TV; basic TV Plus availability extends to compatible older devices in select areas.
How it compares with other free streaming options
Roku’s The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Tubi are alternatives for viewers who want free, ad-supported streaming without making Samsung hardware a prerequisite. Broadly, TV Plus emphasizes integration with Samsung’s device ecosystem and combines live and on-demand discovery. Pluto TV also foregrounds live-style channels, while Tubi is especially relevant to viewers seeking on-demand films and shows. Exact libraries, device support, and features vary by market and can change.
