Sami Zayn stunned the WWE Universe on the Aug. 29, 2025 episode of SmackDown, defeating Solo Sikoa to win the United States Championship for the first time in his career. The main event turned on interference by Sikoa’s MFTs, a counter-intervention by Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu, and a closing pair of Helluva Kicks.
What was at stake in the SmackDown main event?
Solo Sikoa defended the United States Championship against Sami Zayn in a match between former members of The Bloodline. WWE’s official match listing noted that Zayn had pinned Sikoa before and posed the question of whether he could overcome the numbers game to take the title. WWE’s match listing
How the match unfolded
The MFTs give Sikoa an advantage
Sikoa’s MFT teammates interfered repeatedly. After they attacked Zayn, Sikoa connected with a Spinning Solo, but Zayn kicked out.
Uso and Fatu even the odds
Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu arrived and fought the MFTs toward the backstage area, pulling Sikoa’s allies away from the match. Zayn landed a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall, but Sikoa remained in control long enough to hit multiple Uranage Slams that sent Zayn onto the announce table.

Zayn survives the count and finishes Sikoa
Zayn managed to return to the ring just before the referee counted to 10. He then hit Sikoa with two Helluva Kicks and pinned him to win the championship. WWE’s official SmackDown results and recap describe the finish and confirm Zayn’s title victory.
What the result confirms
The win made Zayn a United States Champion for the first time. The match’s official listing framed his challenge around Sikoa’s numbers advantage; the result showed that advantage disrupted Zayn’s chances until Uso and Fatu intervened, before Zayn secured the pin himself. The result establishes the title change, but does not by itself confirm what WWE planned for Zayn’s next title defense.
