Samantha Jade, presenter James Tobin and McGrath Foundation director Tracy Bevan joined forces for a campaign launched in August 2024, ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The appeal asked Australians to raise funds for specialist nursing support, with Jade planning a pink-party fundraiser.
Who was in the McGrath Foundation’s “super squad”?
The campaign’s public faces were singer Samantha Jade, presenter James Tobin and Foundation director Tracy Bevan. PerthNow reported that the campaign launched on the Monday before its 6 August 2024 article, 57 days before Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in October. PerthNow’s campaign report
What was the campaign asking people to do?
Its immediate appeal was to raise funds for specialist nursing support. Jade said her mother had experienced cancer—not breast cancer—and had found a tumour in her breast. Jade planned to host a pink party fundraiser. PerthNow’s interview and campaign coverage
For readers who wanted to take part, the Foundation’s fundraising portal supports registering a fundraiser and provides guidance. People can also consider making a direct donation or volunteering; check the Foundation’s current options and requirements at its fundraising portal. If hosting a themed event, decorations are an optional event-planning choice, not a donation: buying supplies does not in itself support the Foundation.

How did people featured in the coverage support the appeal?
PerthNow also profiled Rose Howells, who said she raised more than $6,000 by shaving her head before chemotherapy. That was Howells’ personal fundraising effort; it was not reported as the campaign’s overall total. She offered this personal advice: “If you feel there’s something wrong — you know your body — go get that checked.” It is her own perspective, not clinical guidance. PerthNow’s coverage
