The most defensible current estimate is a 2028–2029 window reported by Filmfare. Director Prashanth Neel plans to move to the sequel after Dragon, and the story will explore how Deva and Varada become enemies.
Salaar 2 is still an active project, but it does not have a publicly confirmed theatrical release date. The most credible current estimate is a 2028–2029 release window reported by Filmfare. That is a reported forecast, not an official date. Director Prashanth Neel has said the sequel is planned as his next project after Dragon, while producer Vijay Kiragandur said in March 2026 that Hombale Films would soon move into production on the follow-up.
The sequel is generally known as Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam. The spelling varies across English-language reports, including “Shouryanga” and “Shourangya.” The confirmed story direction is more important than the transliteration: the film will explore how Deva and Varada, once close friends, become enemies.
Salaar 2 release date: what is the latest update?
There is currently no officially announced release date for Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam. The best available estimate is a 2028–2029 window, reported in May 2026.

| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Has a final release date been announced? | No. |
| What window has been reported? | 2028–2029. |
| Is a 2026 or 2027 release confirmed? | No. Earlier targets should not be treated as current. |
| When is the sequel expected to follow in Prashanth Neel’s schedule? | After Dragon. |
The schedule remains difficult to pin down because the production must accommodate Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Neel. No dated shooting announcement, teaser date or final theatrical calendar commitment has been located in the current information. For that reason, the accurate wording is: “Salaar 2 is expected around 2028–2029, although the makers have not announced a final release date.”
Is Salaar 2 in production?
The project remains active, but that does not mean that principal photography has been publicly confirmed as underway.
On March 2, 2026, producer Vijay Kiragandur told Variety India that Hombale Films would be “diving into production” on Salaar 2 soon and described it as a large-scale continuation of the first film. In May 2026, reports on Prashanth Neel’s comments identified the sequel as his immediate next project after Dragon.
Those updates establish that the film is being planned and remains part of Neel’s schedule. They do not establish a completed percentage, a confirmed start of principal photography or a locked release date. Claims that the film is already a specific amount finished should therefore be treated cautiously unless a new official production update supports them.

The two central returning stars are strongly supported:
- Prabhas as Deva, the franchise’s central action protagonist.
- Prithviraj Sukumaran as Varada, also spelled “Vardha” in some reports, Deva’s former friend and the other principal figure in the story.
Prashanth Neel is expected to return as director, with Vijay Kiragandur and Hombale Films associated with the production.
Will Sriya Reddy, Shruti Haasan and the other Part 1 actors return?
Hombale Films’ official Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire page lists Sriya Reddy, Shruti Haasan, Garuda Ram and Bobby Simha among the first film’s ensemble. However, the current information does not provide a definitive full sequel cast. Their return should not be described as confirmed unless the makers announce it specifically.

The sequel’s central dramatic question is: what happened between Deva and Varada, and why did their friendship turn into open enmity?
Prashanth Neel has described the film as showing the moment and circumstances that transform the two friends into enemies. The story is also expected to cover a period between 2010 and 2017. That time frame gives the sequel a defined historical setting, but it is not a complete plot synopsis. No official scene-by-scene story has been released.
Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire established a world built around a violently contested kingdom and the bond between two men whose loyalty is placed under extreme pressure. The sequel should therefore be understood as a direct expansion of that political and personal conflict, rather than as a completely separate adventure.
What the confirmed story does not establish
Fan discussions have proposed theories involving succession, exile, concealed identities and connections to a wider cinematic universe. Those ideas are not confirmed story details. Until Hombale Films or Neel releases a fuller synopsis, they should remain clearly labeled as speculation.
Is Salaar 2 connected to Ugramm?
Yes, in the sense that Neel has described Salaar as a substantial retelling or reworking of the essence of his 2014 Kannada film Ugramm. He has also indicated that the sequel is not simply a repeat of Ugramm’s plot.
That distinction matters. It is accurate to say that Salaar is inspired by or built from the core of Neel’s earlier narrative. It is not accurate to call the sequel an exact reproduction of Ugramm’s story without supporting evidence.

Will Salaar 2 connect to the KGF universe?
No crossover with the KGF universe has been confirmed. Fan theories often connect Prashanth Neel’s films, but those theories are not evidence of a shared storyline. Neel has previously rejected the idea that Rocky, the protagonist of KGF, is part of Salaar.
Unless the filmmakers make a new announcement, a KGF crossover should be treated as speculation rather than part of the confirmed Salaar 2 story.

Why the release date keeps changing
Earlier coverage circulated a 2025 target, and a January 2026 report said that the project had not yet reached a confirmed shooting timeline. Later comments from Neel and Kiragandur made the situation clearer: the sequel was still active and intended to proceed, but its production order and release calendar were not yet fixed.
The difference between those reports is important. A target is not the same as a production start, and a producer’s intention to begin production soon is not the same as a dated theatrical commitment. The 2028–2029 estimate should consequently be presented as a reported window that may change.
How to watch Salaar: Part 1 before the sequel
The first film, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, is the essential starting point because the sequel is built around the relationship between Deva and Varada and the political conflict introduced in Part 1.
Hombale Films’ official film page has linked Part 1 with Netflix, Prime Video, Airtel Xstream, JioHotstar, Apple TV, ZEE5, Sun NXT and SonyLIV. Availability can vary by country, subscription, language version and date, so viewers should check the current listing in their region before subscribing or renting. The first film’s availability does not confirm anything about the eventual streaming home of Salaar 2.
What can fans buy while waiting?
A clearly labeled Salaar movie poster or other wall art is a more appropriate fan purchase than an alleged Salaar 2 DVD, Blu-ray or collectible, none of which is confirmed here. If you shop through a marketplace, check the live listing, seller reputation, image rights and licensing language. Do not assume that a poster is officially licensed simply because it uses the film’s title or Prabhas’s image.
Salaar 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam merchandise, apparel, soundtrack physical media and home-entertainment products may become future opportunities, but no specific sequel product or partner is confirmed in the current information.

Bottom line
Salaar 2 is not cancelled or officially dated. It remains an active project led by Prashanth Neel and Hombale Films, with Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran at its center. Neel plans to take it up after Dragon, and Filmfare has reported a 2028–2029 release window. The story will focus on the friendship-turned-rivalry of Deva and Varada, covering events discussed as taking place between 2010 and 2017.
Until the makers announce a schedule, the release window, complete cast, filming status, teaser plans and any wider-universe connection should all be treated as provisional.
