Why was the December announcement cancelled?
Scroll reported that the Akademi had scheduled a press conference for 3 p.m. in Delhi on December 18, 2025, after an Executive Board meeting. The event was cancelled minutes before it was due to begin, and the awards process was put on hold.

For the stated reason, Scroll attributed its account to reporting by The Hindu and The Telegraph about a Union Ministry of Culture note. As described in that coverage, the note invoked the 2025–26 Memorandum of Understanding and consultation on restructuring the awards. It reportedly sought information about measures already taken and said the declaration process should not proceed without ministry approval until the restructuring was cleared.
The ministry note itself is not available in the sources cited here, so its contents and rationale should be understood as reported accounts, not as independently verified wording from the original document.

What remains unclear about the directive?
The official March announcement confirms that the awards were issued after the December cancellation, but it does not explain what happened between those dates. It also does not say whether the reported restructuring directive changed award rules or procedures. The later results therefore resolve whether the 2025 awards were announced, but not the details of the intervening decision-making.
