What is the B.J. Surhoff documentary?
Origins: Legends of Westchester is a reported documentary series spotlighting athletes connected to Westchester County. Rye-Harrison News quoted Surhoff reflecting on the people who helped him: “I want to recognize everybody who helped me throughout my life and that made a difference — family, friends, coaches, whomever,” and, “For me, letting people know that nobody gets anywhere on their own is important.” The local report identified Westchester Magazine as the original interview source but did not name the interviewer or give an interview date. His standout 1999 season
Surhoff’s 1999 season was a high point: he batted .308 with 207 hits, 107 RBIs, and 28 home runs, and made the only All-Star appearance of his career. SABR also records that he played for the 1984 U.S. Olympic baseball team. Baseball was a demonstration sport at those Summer Games, not a medal event; the U.S. team lost the championship game to Japan, and Surhoff hit .303 in the tournament. SABR
Orioles coach Terry Crowley described Surhoff in 1999 as having “the same kind of commitment and intensity that Pete Rose and Frank Robinson brought to the game. It’s uncompromising.” SABR attributes the assessment to Crowley in its biography. SABR
