The staged segment, published August 6, 2024, also brings in Reynolds’s mother, Tammy, and Hugh Jackman.
What happened in the interview?
Reynolds opened by pointing out the unusual setup: “It’s not every day the husband gets to interview his wife’s love interest in a film. It’s kind of crazy.” He asked Sklenar about a promotional photo he called suggestive and whether Sklenar and Lively had a nickname for each other. The questions quickly gave way to exaggerated teasing, including jokes about Sklenar’s physique. Us Weekly’s account of the exchange describes the back-and-forth.

Who joins Ryan Reynolds?
Tammy Reynolds
Reynolds steps aside and his mother, Tammy, takes over as interviewer. She jokes that Sklenar is “the man trying to replace my sweet little gummy bear Ryan,” extending the bit’s mock family rivalry. TheWrap covered Tammy Reynolds’s cameo.
Hugh Jackman
Jackman joins the interview with a joke of his own: “It’s not everyday a guy gets to interview the love interest of his best friend’s wife and the guy trying to replace Ryan as a husband and me as his best mate.” The segment ends not with a confrontation but with the group praising Sklenar, according to CNN’s report syndicated by ABC17 News.

- IT ENDS WITH US tells the empowering story of Lily Bloom. Grappling with a painful past, Lily embarks on a new life in Boston and opens her own flower shop. After falling in love with Ryle, Lily begins to see sides of him that remind her of her dangerous father. With the support of her friends and allies, Lily must find her own strength to break the pattern or the pattern will break her.
Why was Brandon Sklenar being teased?
Sklenar plays Atlas, the love interest of Lively’s character in It Ends With Us, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel. The jokes play on the actors’ on-screen pairing and Reynolds’s role as Lively’s husband; coverage characterized the exchange as a staged promotional bit rather than a serious confrontation. Glamour described the segment as a press-day gag.
