Gosling plays Kade Auberon. What is the story about?
Lucasfilm’s official synopsis says: “In Starfighter, when a cynical rogue is confronted by his mysterious past, he is hurled into a dangerous adventure across the galaxy that puts him on a crash course with destiny.” The synopsis establishes the broad setup but does not name the rogue or spell out the adventure’s events.
The project was introduced at Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025. At the announcement, Levy described it as a story with new characters set several years after Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, and said it was neither a prequel nor a sequel, according to the Associated Press. Lucasfilm later characterized the film as a standalone story set in a previously unexplored period. It is therefore separate from the numbered Skywalker saga, though it is set after Episode IX.
