As of October 2, 2026, the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s Production List labeled Rush Hour 4 “In Production.” That is the latest dated status found—not a public studio announcement, confirmed start date, locked financing, signed cast deals, or release date. Published reports connect Donald Trump to the revival, but do not establish that he alone made the sequel happen.
Is Rush Hour 4 actually happening?
The project has moved beyond a dormant sequel proposal: the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s Production List carried it as “In Production” on October 2, 2026, and named China and Saudi Arabia as locations. The entry is an industry-directory listing, not confirmation from Paramount or a public production-start announcement.

There is an important qualification in the same listing: its project summary still described financing and contract negotiations as unresolved. A directory can label a project in production while business arrangements remain unsettled, so the status does not by itself establish that cameras are rolling or that the film is fully funded.
What is Donald Trump’s role?
The connection rests on published reporting, not a direct public confirmation from Trump or Paramount. On November 26, 2025, the Associated Press reported that Paramount was in closing talks to distribute the film after Trump had reportedly asked the company to take it on, citing an earlier Semafor report. AP said Paramount would receive a distribution fee and would not finance the movie; it also reported that the White House had not immediately commented.

On May 12, 2026, The Washington Post reported that director Brett Ratner would join Trump’s trip to China and scout locations for the film. Ratner spokeswoman Victoria Palmer-Moore said he planned to shoot “a lot” of Rush Hour 4 in China. The Post said the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Ratner’s participation in the trip.
Together, the accounts support describing Trump as an influential reported advocate whose interest was linked to Paramount’s distribution talks and the China location visit. They do not show that he financed, produced, or single-handedly revived the movie.

Who is expected to return, and are they signed?
The series began with Rush Hour in 1998 and continued with films in 2001 and 2007. AP reported that the fourth installment would reunite Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, the franchise’s lead pair.
That reported intention is not the same as a completed cast deal. On April 24, 2026, Puck reported that Chan and Tucker had each rejected an initial offer of $8 million and had not signed contracts. Those figures were reported offers, not agreed salaries. Production List’s October 2 entry continued to describe contract negotiations as unresolved; it did not establish whether either actor had since signed.
What remains unresolved about financing and production?
Puck reported on April 24, 2026, that producers Arthur Sarkissian and Tarak Ben Ammar were seeking $115 million to $120 million in production financing, which was not clearly secured at the time. That range is a reported financing plan, not a confirmed final budget. The October Production List entry still summarized financing as unresolved.
Puck also reported that an intended spring or summer 2026 shoot in China, Africa, and Saudi Arabia had been pushed to September at the earliest. The later directory entry named China and Saudi Arabia, while Ratner’s spokeswoman had specifically anticipated substantial filming in China. These reports indicate planned locations, not a guarantee that filming has begun in every named country or that the location plan is final.

What has Paramount agreed to do?
In its November 2025 account, AP described Paramount as a prospective distributor in closing talks, with a distribution fee and no financing role. Warner Bros., which released the three earlier films, had passed on the project at that time, AP reported. Paramount’s reported involvement should therefore not be mistaken for proof that it is paying the production costs, or for a studio announcement confirming the film’s start or release.

How to read the reports and status claims
- Directory status: Production List’s October 2, 2026 entry is the latest dated status found and labels the project “In Production.” It also notes unresolved financing and contracts.
- Reported business discussions: AP’s November 2025 account describes Paramount’s distribution talks and Trump’s reported request; Puck’s April 2026 account describes financing and cast negotiations at that date.
- Attributed location comment: The Washington Post’s May 2026 story reports a spokeswoman’s statement about Ratner’s China plans. It is not a final location schedule.
- Not established by these accounts: a confirmed filming start, final financing, signed contracts for Chan and Tucker, a locked release date, or a direct Trump or Paramount confirmation of the reported request.
