Called the Runway–Getty Images Model (RGM), it was intended to combine Runway’s video-generation technology with Getty’s licensed creative library and let business customers fine-tune a baseline model on their own data. The public sources cited here do not establish that RGM became a generally available, separately purchasable product.
What Runway and Getty announced
On December 4, 2023, Runway said it was partnering with Getty Images to develop the Runway–Getty Images Model, or RGM. The announcement described an enterprise-focused video-generation model, not a consumer feature launch. The companies named Hollywood studios, advertising, media, broadcasting and other businesses as intended users. Runway’s announcement said commercial use was expected “in the coming months” and invited companies to inquire about custom-model training.
The proposed workflow had two parts: customers would start with RGM as a baseline and could fine-tune it using their own proprietary datasets. Getty’s contribution was described broadly as access to its licensed creative-content library and commercial-content expertise; the announcement did not give a precise inventory of training inputs or say that Getty supplied only stock footage. Runway brought its model-development and video-generation capabilities.
The companies’ pitch was that licensed source content and customer-specific customization could support more controlled commercial generation. That is a rationale for the partnership, not proof of a particular level of output quality, legal protection or production readiness.

Is RGM available to buy?
The announcement establishes that RGM was announced and that commercial availability was planned. It does not, by itself, establish a public launch. Getty’s later corporate filing continues to list Runway among its AI-model partners and describes a goal of commercially safe image and video generation, supporting the continued strategic relationship but not confirming a public, separately purchasable RGM product. Getty’s filing does not supply public RGM access details.
In the sources cited here, no RGM model-access page, public price, customer list, model card or independent performance benchmark is established. Nor is ordinary access for Runway subscribers established. An invitation to discuss custom training is not the same as self-serve availability. Buyers should ask Runway directly whether an RGM deployment can be contracted for their use case and what form that access takes.
What “licensed” does—and does not—tell a buyer
Getty’s library gives the partnership a specific data-provenance proposition: the companies presented the source material as licensed, rather than describing RGM as trained entirely on an opaque corpus. For enterprises evaluating commercial tools, documented provenance can help legal and procurement teams assess a system. It does not settle every rights question.
The 2023 announcement did not publish a complete training-data inventory, customer contract, output policy, warranty or indemnification schedule. “Licensed” should therefore not be read as a blanket guarantee that every generated frame is free of claims or cleared for every intended use. A buyer still needs to establish the contractual scope of permitted use and address such matters as recognizable people, trademarks, artwork, locations and protected characters. Talent likeness, voice, consent and collective-bargaining obligations can also arise in entertainment work independently of training-data provenance.

Before using any enterprise generation system in a campaign or production, legal and production teams should verify the actual terms governing outputs, indemnification, customer data and review responsibilities. The announcement does not establish that customers own all generated results, receive exclusive outputs or obtain indemnity.
Why fine-tuning could matter to studios and advertisers
A general-purpose model can create a starting image or shot; the proposed RGM distinction was the possibility of adapting a baseline to a customer’s own material. In principle, that could make generation more relevant to an organization’s visual world than simply prompting a general public model. The announcement did not demonstrate that these outcomes were achieved, so they are potential uses, not verified RGM capabilities.
- Studios: a rights holder might explore its own catalog or production-design references for development, previsualization, storyboards, pitch materials, VFX experimentation or marketing variations.
- Advertising agencies and brands: a custom workflow could be explored for product-focused concepts, brand-aligned variations, localization or campaign ideation.
- Broadcasters and media companies: recurring promotional or graphics workflows could benefit from controlled visual references and repeatable approvals.
These uses are not equivalent to generating a finished, broadcast-ready sequence. Buyers should test continuity across shots, product and logo fidelity, camera control, editability, revision repeatability and integration with post-production. Runway’s current pages describe broader media and marketing workflows, but those capabilities should not be attributed specifically to RGM: media and entertainment and marketing and advertising.
Questions the public announcement leaves open
Fine-tuning on proprietary data raises commercial and governance questions that the partnership announcement does not answer. They should be addressed in a statement of work and contract, not assumed from the phrase “custom model.”

- Who owns or controls fine-tuned weights, and can the customer export or move them?
- Are customer datasets isolated, retained, or used to improve any shared system? What deletion rights apply when a contract ends?
- Are outputs exclusive, and what restrictions apply to depicting recognizable talent, characters, brands or products?
- Is the system delivered through an API, private deployment or managed service? What regional processing, access controls and audit logs are available?
- What are the price structure, usage limits, support terms and update commitments? What happens to the model and customer data at termination?
- How are provenance, human review and approval handled, and what evidence can a customer retain for internal legal review?
These are diligence questions, not disclosed RGM terms. A custom model may improve fit for a catalog or brand, but it can also increase cost, reduce portability and create dependence on a vendor for inference, storage, updates and support.
Hollywood context: do not confuse Getty with Lionsgate
Runway’s Getty announcement named Hollywood among the sectors it hoped to serve, but did not identify a studio customer for RGM or say that Getty supplied a studio film catalog. Runway later announced a separate partnership with Lionsgate on September 18, 2024, describing a customized model based on Lionsgate’s proprietary film and television catalog. That announcement is the clearer example of a studio-specific catalog model.
On June 11, 2026, Runway and Lionsgate announced an expanded relationship that included an equity interest for Lionsgate in Runway and a joint development program for new intellectual property. The expansion is distinct from the Getty deal; it should not be presented as evidence that RGM launched or that Getty’s library was used to train a Lionsgate model.

RGM is not established here as a public subscription choice. For a buyer making a decision now, the relevant comparison is between public creative platforms, licensed-content services and a negotiated custom-model engagement. The distinctions below are based on the cited product and company information, not on a head-to-head quality test.

Runway pricing is not RGM pricing
For orientation, Runway’s public individual-plan page was observed in August 2026 listing Free with 125 one-time credits; Standard at $15 per month or $12 per month with annual billing; Pro at $35 monthly or $28 monthly with annual billing; and Max at $95 monthly or $76 monthly with annual billing. The page listed monthly credits of 625 for Standard, 2,250 for Pro and 9,500 for Max. These are dated public-plan observations, not enterprise quotes or prices for RGM. Runway says Max replaced Unlimited for new subscribers beginning June 1, 2026. Check the live pricing page for current terms.
Runway’s API pricing guide lists Gen-4.5 at 12 credits per generated second and API credits at $0.01 each. That works out to approximately $0.12 per generated second at the stated rates, before other applicable charges; it is a calculation, not a separately quoted price. It also describes Gen-4.5 API use, not RGM. See the API pricing guide. In production budgeting, account for discarded generations, variants, review cycles, any additional processing and human cleanup—not only the final clip.
What a serious enterprise pilot should test
If a provider offers a custom-model engagement, a short, contractually bounded pilot can test the workflow before a broader commitment. The pilot should use material the customer is authorized to provide and should make the intended output use explicit.
- Define the job: choose a concrete task such as previsualization, product concept variations or localized promotional assets—not a vague mandate to “use AI.”
- Set acceptance criteria: evaluate continuity, reference fidelity, controllability, revision reproducibility, output quality and fit with existing edit or approval systems.
- Resolve data terms first: document what may be uploaded, where it is processed, who can access it, how long it is retained and how deletion is verified.
- Confirm rights and responsibility: obtain the applicable output-use permissions, warranty and indemnity terms, plus review rules for likenesses, logos and other protected elements.
- Measure total workflow cost: include generation attempts, credit or API use, staff time, review, post-production and vendor support.
- Plan for exit: specify what happens to customer data, fine-tuned assets, access and deliverables if the engagement ends.
For unreleased footage, scripts, product designs or campaign concepts, do not upload material until the applicable enterprise confidentiality and data-handling terms have been confirmed.
