What is the documentary Run Terry Run about?
Global News describes Run Terry Run as a behind-the-scenes look at the Marathon of Hope, Fox’s 1980 effort to raise money for cancer research. The film includes previously unseen footage from that journey. Director Sean Menard discussed how the footage was discovered, the making of the film and Fox’s continuing legacy in a Global News Morning interview.
The report does not give a release date, runtime, distributor or confirmed viewing platform. It therefore does not establish whether the documentary is available to watch yet, or whether it will be released in cinemas, broadcast on television or offered through a streaming service. Global News’ report is the source for the film details available here.
What was Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope?
After losing a leg to osteogenic sarcoma and undergoing treatment, Fox began the Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980. He set out to raise money for cancer research, running close to 42 kilometres a day through six provinces and visiting more than 400 towns, schools and cities to explain his purpose, according to the Terry Fox Foundation.

How does the Marathon of Hope’s legacy continue?
The Terry Fox Foundation says the Marathon of Hope helped establish the ongoing annual Terry Fox Run. Its current run page lists the 2026 event for September 20, with more than 650 communities participating. The date and community count are event information on the Foundation’s page, not a claim about future years.

The Foundation’s story page says more than $1 billion has been raised for cancer research in Fox’s name through the annual run. That page does not date the cumulative total, so it should not be read as a figure measured specifically in 2026. Fox’s words, “Anything’s possible if you try,” are also quoted on the page. The Foundation’s Terry Fox Run page reproduces a line from his journal dated April 12, 1980: “Today is the day it all begins…”
