Rue Mupedzi’s BarbeRue Sauce was sold at Coles around Australia for a limited time after she won a condiment immunity challenge on MasterChef Australia Season 15. Coles’ current listing marks the 375 mL bottle “Currently unavailable,” so the 2023 nationwide release should not be read as a sign that it is in stock today.
Why BarbeRue Sauce made the news
Mupedzi won the Season 15 condiment immunity challenge with BarbeRue Sauce, serving it with ribs and chicken. The prize included a limited-time Coles release. Paramount announced the news on June 15, 2023, and contemporary PerthNow coverage said the sauce would be available nationally from June 16.
The launch was a past retail release, not confirmation of ongoing availability. Network 10’s Season 15 profile records Mupedzi’s challenge dish, while Paramount’s June 15, 2023 announcement describes the limited-time Coles release.
What the sauce tastes like
Mupedzi described BarbeRue as “smoky, sweet and very spicy.” PerthNow characterized its flavor direction as tangy and spicy, rather than the sweet-leaning style often associated with barbecue sauce. These are descriptions of the sauce, not a standardized heat rating or a claim that every shopper will experience the same balance.

In Paramount’s announcement, Mupedzi said it reminded her of family weekends around the barbecue. She also said she had never had barbecue sauce before arriving in Australia from Zimbabwe in 2009. Those details give the sauce a personal context: it was her take on a familiar Australian condiment, shaped by her own background and memories.
What Coles’ listing says
Coles’ product listing identifies the bottle as 375 mL and names honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, tomato paste, Dijon mustard, pineapple juice and spices among its ingredients. The listing currently says “Currently unavailable.” That is the retailer’s present listing status; it does not establish that the sauce will never return.

No relaunch is confirmed by the sources cited here. In a PerthNow interview published May 6, 2025, Mupedzi said she still received Instagram messages asking, “When is your sauce coming back?” That shows people continued to ask her about it; it does not confirm a return, a new release date or current store stock.
